When I went to see my NP after my MC she printed me out a copy of this:
http://www.acog.org/About%20ACOG/News%20Room/News%20Releases/2013/High%20Protein%20Low%20Carb%20Diets%20Greatly%20Improve%meconium.aspx

Basically, in a nutshell, the article found better fertility in women who had a higher percentage of their calories from protein than carbs. Food for thought!

I'm bumping this thread again...

Did anyone have a rash in the first few weeks of going GF? I've read that its possible from the detox, but it doesn't seem super common. Wondering if I need to go see a doctor or if I should just wait it out. I'm about 2.5 weeks into it, and the rash started maybe 5 days in.

while it could be completely coincidental, when i got pregnant with my lo (3rd pregnancy, 1st sticky) i was on the first phase of the south beach diet, which essentially cuts out gluten because it is almost completely carb free.

this was with our 3rd iui, the 2 previous ones being unsuccessful.

i will definitely be talking about this with my doctor our next go around.

@LovelyPlum: Yesterday on the way home from the ND I stopped by Whole Foods and got myself my favorite cookie (Chocolate toffee crunch) as a "consultation cookie" as my last gluten for the foreseeable future. It was SO GOOD. I also got some GF junk food. So enjoy your chicken and cake tonight, then start fresh tomorrow!

I totally wish several of us lived in the same city so we could go through these things together.

@LovelyPlum: When I went gluten free, I had a gluten bucket list that I went through! That was a delicious few days!!! It helped to make the transition over a few days so I didn't feel like I was setting myself up for failure. GF is really doable.

@redsmarties: I also thought about this-because diabetes runs in my family, so my doctor thought if I did have pcos, it was likely a manifestation of insulin resistance. So I have also been looking at recipes, etc, for low-carb options.

@Mrs.Someone: I was partly thinking about you. (and @Running Elley) when I wrote this. This makes it sound like going GF can actually affect implantation, not just ovulation. That is what I'm really interested in.

Ok, so next question: would.it be too late to try this cycle? I'm 2-3 DPO.

I have PCOS and I went mostly carb-free, because of insulin resistance. I wasn't totally gluten-free, but cut out most wheat/processed carbs and focussed more on cutting down on the sugars as well.
It REALLY helped - the weight loss alone greatly contributed to regulating cycles and things like that.

@pui: I totally agree with you that it seems to be an annoying fad, but the whole point of it was explained to me yesterday, and unfortunately its my new reality. However, lots of people jump on the bandwagon because it sounds like a great idea, not because they need it.

Gluten is inflammatory and acts like antibodies in our system. As @justdarling: pointed out, this causes our bodies to be in attack mode all the time. For most women, no problem. But I also have an autoimmune condition (maybe more than one) so extra antibodies and inflammation means that an embryo is having a tough time implanting. This means that my body is literally attacking the embryo (potentially by throwing micro blood clots at it), and by having more antibodies around it makes the whole thing worse. I don't plan on being GF forever, but I'd like to have a healthy pregnancy, so it looks like this may be the only way.

This is so interesting -- never heard this before.
I have no idea if you should be GF before, during or both!?

I have celiac disease, so it is important for me to be strictly gluten free. When I was pregnant I was even more careful than normal i was so freaked to get accidentally glutened!

I could see going GF if you have any autoimmune issues as it does help many of them...

@Pirouette: I didn't know anyone else on here had celiac! Hello!

It's sad that people think of being GF a fad, but, I get it... It's exploded and there is a lot of misinformation out there - but it makes it hard for people to take seriously and it's medically necessary for me!
