A new update: we put CJ in her crib for the first time last night, and she slept from just before midnight all the way to 6 am. Holy cow! She went back to sleep at 6:30 after eating, and still asleep now at 9 am (a couple of times she woke up fussing a little but I let her work that out herself). I feel like a new person today - woohoo!

Thanks for the encouragement, guys! She fell asleep about 15 minutes after I posted this, and just recently woke up at almost 4:30. That's close to a 5 hour stretch - it feels so good to sleep that long so I love it when she does that! I've laid her back down and she's making noises but they sound like "I'm asleep or about to be asleep" noises for sure.

I did see a couple of the recent sleep threads after posting this (duh, might be good to see what others have posted before I start a new thread!) and the info there is helpful, particularly about nursing to sleep. I'm definitely of two minds about it, as it 1) seems to be working so why mess with it but 2) makes me feel like I'm the key for her to fall asleep and I don't want to be locked into that!

@espion: WW app tells me I'm in between WWs...but who knows? As for day sleeping, CJ will also fall asleep in the carseat or sling (we haven't used the stroller except once since she was born, but I'm guessing that would work too?) pretty easily so those are always options for napping. This week she hasn't conked out in her swing at all, but during previous weeks that has been a good go-to as well.

@grizz: I have decided that for my sanity I might want to only pick one battle at a time - maybe that would help you too? (i.e. tackle nighttime sleep first, then naps after? or vice versa?) interwebz hugs right back atcha.

I did just post a thread on sleep a couple of days ago. C is 9 weeks and kid is KILLING ME. Naps are an all-out brawl every day, and night sleep is a joke. I've read every sleep book and have figured out I can't force him into any of the routines they describe so we're just back to going with the (exhausting, never ending) flow. So I'm no help but I want to stop by and tell you you're not the only one, and offer interwebz hugs

@tinypiglet: 7 weeks is so young! I say don't worry about it!

Mine's 5 months and I still nurse to sleep, because I figured she's hungry! I haven't seen anything wrong with it yet?

At 7 weeks, she only fell asleep if I nursed or we shushed her (5 S's were a godsend!) so I think you're doing great!

I'm observing that all of our June LOs are wonder-week'in pretty hard. E has been weirdly fussy in the evenings, wanting to nurse all the time. @grizz: had a thread last night about sleep. I was amused to see some of us June/July mamas pop in and say that we've been having trouble too. WWs must be real!

FWIW, E has pretty much the same "schedule" as your LO, although, his naps during the day are pretty spotty. (Unless we happen to be out and about driving, then he sleeps.)

at 7 weeks we were still very much going with the flow. LO gradually moved his own bedtime from 12am, 11pm, 10:30pm... etc.

I don't really have any advice as we stayed schedule-less until he was 7 months!

if a schedule is something you want, i'm sure plenty of bees have advice for you on how to do that! if you're happy going with the flow for now... there's nothing wrong with that either!

So CJ is seven weeks old tomorrow, and she's mostly sleeping pretty well in my opinion. She generally goes down around 11 pm each night and wakes up once or twice before 7 am (usually around 3 and 6ish, but sometimes she'll sleep until 4 and then wake up again at 7). She then sleeps off and on until around 10:30 or 11 am. She is awake for longer stretches in the afternoon, usually, with no effect on her mood - she just seems to like being awake during that part of the day.

I am finding that getting her to go to sleep at night without nursing her to sleep is simply not happening, except after her middle of the night feedings (if she wakes up when I put her back down she will generally manage to get herself to sleep). I'm sitting here right now at 20 after 11 with a wide awake baby in my lap, and I just fed her 15 minutes ago, so I am not sure how I'm going to get her to sleep unless she gets hungry again before midnight.

Am I worrying about this too early on? Should I still just be going with the flow? Or should I be trying for a "bedtime" and some sort of schedule?
