My only must-have at Thanksgiving is my aunt's sweet potato casserole. When I started going to Hubs' family's Thanksgiving, I made it myself and brought it as my contribution (they do a big potluck thing). It is not Thanksgiving without it. Other than that, I can take or leave anything else "traditional" for Thanksgiving. Oh, and when we go to my aunt's out in Michigan (every other year), we have to have Monte Cristo sandwiches the next day with left over turkey. Yummm...

I love Thanksgiving! I always make a big turkey even though barely anybody eats it and it's my least favorite part. Then sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, corn, broccoli casserole, stuffing, rolls, and cranberry sauce. And it's usually just me, DH, my dad, and my dad's wife! I'm ridiculous.

@Coco Bee: i'll be pretty pregnant this year, but i am determined to go full force! i'm hoping it even gives me and advantage... people are nicer to pregnant women. :) i have friends with kids, and they will usually leave baby at home with dad until 7 or so, then stop by and get them for the rest of the day of shopping. i can't imagine bringing a baby out at 4am!

@regberadaisy: I've been thinking about doing a mini thanksgiving dinner first week in September to ring in the unofficial start to fall! I don't even eat the turkey - I'm mainly in it for the stuffing!

@photojane: I LOVE black Friday. Where we live, the outlet mall opens at midnight and I heard that they're opening at 10pm this year! So I've been up all night before lol.
Last year I was pregnant though, so I only shopped for a couple hours.
I'm debating about this year... I have a 6 mos old right now... so I'm not sure if I'd take him with me (during the day) or go by myself... hmm!!! I also have to save $$ lol

@Coco Bee: i am DYING over those hats! i can't wait until we have a little turkey to dress up for the holidays!

i love eating, so of course i love thanksgiving. i always get up and do cinnamon rolls and watch the parade - it's my favorite part of the day! my grandma and aunt always do the cooking, so i usually just bring a dessert. i usually get a little bit of everything and eat way more than anyone ever should. this year i'll be in my third trimester, so at least i can say i'm eating for two. :)

as much as i love thanksgiving, i love black friday even more! my mom and i always get together after thanksgiving dinner and go through the sales papers and write out a plan of attack. then we go to bed super early and get up around 4am to start the day! we're so crazy about black friday.

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday... with Christmas following closely behind!!

Well, we usually had the norm - turkey, ham, rolls, stuffing, cranberries, and mashed potatoes, pie etc... BUT my family has totally had health reform this past year and now all of us eat crazy healthy.

So I think there may be a few tweaks... maybe paleo pumpkin pie? Sweet potatoes, GF dinner rolls etc.

I'm excited to see what we decide to make!

One year my grandma wanted to have a Sopranos themed Thanksgiving and all the food was Italian - it was SO great!!

@hilsy85: SOOOO CUTE. I think I need to DIY that. I vote YES.

We almost always travel to my husband's side of the family for Thanksgiving. We don't like their food (rude I know but it's true, my husband gets food poisoning every time we visit - plus I'm a veg and they literally have nothing I can eat even if I wanted to) so we always have our own dinner after we come back. We always have turkey - we like the free range too, homemade gravy and cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, and a roasted vegetable dish with parsnips, carrots, onions, turnips, brussels. We always have stuffing - technically dressing 'cause we don't like to stuff the bird - and lots of desserts but there has to be pumpkin pie!

I love love thanksgiving! I always start my day at 6am ready to prep for the feast to come. I love making free range turkey (huge difference since it's not injected with all that salt!), sweet potato casserole, crockpot mashed potatoes (using half cauliflower and greek yogurt instead of sour cream for a healthier version), creamed corn, homemade stuffing, and pumpkin pie. we also mix it up a little by making a bunch of random homemade asian dishes. it is an eclectic affair!

@purrpletulips: Do you usually eat wild turkey for Thanksgiving? My husband kills one most years (in Spring), but I think it tastes horrible. I've tried cooking it every way and still can't stomach it. I end up giving the other breast and legs away. It's the only wild meat I tend to find too gamey for me. What's the secret?
