@Rubies: Have you tried stretching her morning wake time to 2 hours? Baby Y could tolerate that pretty easily for the past couple months. Maybe that would help extend the morning nap again?

Well, so far so good tonight ... I put him down just before 6:30 after almost 4 hours of WT on the heels of that crappy afternoon nap. He didn't fight it, and no wake-ups so far. Hope I didn't just jinx it.

Every day is an adventure!

@Rubies: Oy, we're having the same problem! LO skips her 3rd nap and then wants to go to bed super early. But if she goes to bed early, she wakes up early. So spend our evenings trying to entertain her to keep her happy and stay up, and then stretch out the bed time routine. But when she's that exhausted, she doesn't even giggle during our pre bath naked time :( And that's my favorite time with her!

the transition from 3 to 2 was really easy for us, but charlie did it at 9 months. can you try pushing the awake intervals in between his naps so he's only taking two naps? we made the transition when charlie was able to stay up an extra 30 min in between his naps.

Sleep gets funner and funner as LOs get older! At 9 months LO became super aware of her surroundings so nap time was fight time with mommy.
She napped for 25 mins this am, then like 40mins at noon. Kills me.

P.S. - LO's NORMAL, ideal, bedtime is to be in her crib for 6pm, which means bedtime routine begins at 5:30pm. But the last 10 days or so, she's been getting into her crib as early as 5:15! I think the most important thing for me is that her morning wake up has remained the same, thank goodness!

So, LO is turning 6months old next week and we've been running into a few napping problems. Up until 1.5 weeks ago, she would take 3 solid naps:
1) Approx. 1 hour after waking up in the morning, she would go down for nap #1 very easily, no fussing, and sleep for a good 2 hours.
2) Nap #2 would happen two hours after waking from her first nap and she would nap for a good 2 hours.
3) Nap #3 would happen two hours after waking from her second nap and this was the hardest for her. Crying/fussing and barely sleeping an hour. Often, she'd sleep for 30-40 minutes and I would maker her CIO until the hour was met.

From nap #3 until bedtime was when she was her crankiest and would result in an early bedtime (as early as 5:15pm). That was then.

Now, or, for the last 1.5 weeks, she will only take two naps.
Nap #1: Approx. 1.5 hours after waking up in the morning, she'll go down but only sleep for 30-40 minutes before waking up (babbling, not even crying) but I make her stay in her crib until the hour has been met.
Nap #2: Approx. 2 -2.5 hours after waking from her first nap, she'll go down and this nap is LOOOONG. Up to 3.5 hours! Minimum 1.5 hours.

She won't take a third nap but I had to put her down to bed SUPER early this week (5pm)...It didn't intefere with her morning wakeup but it changed her night feedings a little bit.

Basically, these days, her bedtime is now determined by her last nap. Last night, she woke up from nap #2 at 3:15pm and by 4:30, for some reason, she was ready for bed. So I stretched out her bedtime routine as long as possible with a super long bath...taking my time getting her into her pjs, etc.

I hope this sort of helps?

So the 3-2 nap transition has been a real pain lately. Baby Y usually takes a decently long morning nap of at least 1.5 hours, sometimes 2.5. But his afternoon nap is usually still short -- 45 minutes max.

Right now, for example, he is whining in his crib. He woke up 10 minutes ago after sleeping for only 35 minutes. So either I have to move bedtime way up to no later than 6 (when I have tried this before he has resisted) or get him to take a catnap in a couple of hours, which he often resists, too. And I'm tired of driving him around at 4:30 or 5 in order to keep bedtime normal.

Any advice? :(
