I started by shortening the length of my two pumps. So I'd normally pump 15 minutes each session for 30 minutes during the day total, but went down to 10 minute sessions for 20 minutes total.

That way when I went down to one session of 15 mins I was only taking 5 minutes off my total pump time.

I went down from 2 pumps to 1 pump right around 10 months, I had calculated that I had more than enough to supplement 5 oz/ working day from my stash and still get to 12 months. I had been pumping around 10 am and 3 pm and getting about 10-15 oz/day. When I first dropped to 1 pump I scheduled it for noon, but it's been getting later and later (he's 11 mo) and now pump around 2 pm. I get between 7-9 oz from this one pump. I have had problems with clogged ducts in the past but no problems dropping to one pump.

Around 8.5-9 mo J started eating 2 bottles (6 oz) instead of 3 (5 oz) while I was gone, now he sometimes does not finish the two bottles. He has bottles around noon and 4 pm. He eats tons of solids and my ped said as long as he has 10 oz milk per day (24 hrs) and water not to worry about in take (J is a big kid and has been consistently growing at his curve).

He still nurses before bed, in the early morning (5ish), and before i leave for work (7:30ish). When I'm home with him I still nurse after both naps (when he normally gets his bottles) and just make sure to give enough solids and water. He's never showed signs of wanting more milk.

Sorry for the novel

DD will be 12 months next week, so I'm going to start dropping a pump session as she transitions at daycare from all breastmilk bottles onto whole cow's milk. I will likely do my one pump session at around 11 or 12 every day. If it's anything like the transition from 3 to 2, though, I expect I'll get close to the same amount of milk just that it will take longer. So if the transition onto WCM goes well, I may quit pumping entirely after another week or so.

I also have a big freezer stash but I'm getting screened to donate it. I may hold back some bags to continue giving her a little bit at daycare, we'll see.

@MrsBrewer: we made it to 13 months so I'm hoping we can make it to one year with DS2 too! And DS2 is gaining well on his curve and I think around 19 lbs at 8.5 months so not going to stress about milk intake at this point!

I just dropped to 1 pump this week. I was doing 9:30 and 2:30 and now I'm doing 12. So my schedule is now:

6:45am - Nurse
12pm - Pump
8pm - Nurse
10:30pm - Pump

I'm getting really full in the afternoon but hoping that will let up soon.

@madger: ahh good to know! my LO is 10 months so still before we are doing WCM. but I plan to introduce it around 1 year, or a bit before in case I don't have enough BM to give her when i work.

At that point I had already been sending less milk/smaller amounts to daycare for a month or two as she was eating more solids. I think she was getting 3ish bottles a day (sometimes just two depending on if she was hungry) from 12-15 months. Around that point my freezer stash ran out and we switched over to cow's milk, which she gets with meals at daycare (so, breakfast and lunch).

@madger: Good to know!

So on a side note then, when you were home with LO's or when the caregivers would give your LO a bottle, when would the day time one be? Right now it's normally after her morning nap around 12-1ish, and then she gets lunch right after her bottle. But it has me thinking, her tummy has got to be super full then!

I took it super slow. originally I pumped around 10, 12, 3. Then the progression went:
- 10, 12, 3
- 11, 3
- then just 12.and nursed her right away when we got home around 4:30. Once I got here, I just kept pushing that one back every few days until I didn't need the pump any more.

@mrsjyw: Yep same here, I'm thinking she probably gets close to about 16 oz/day. I guess as long as they are eating good nutritious that's the main thing! How long did you nurse your first LO? Is it following suit this time around?

@MrsBrewer: same! ever since we ramped up solids, his BM intake has probably been avging 16oz a day?... I WAH so I was nursing most days, so my stash never really got used... I think we probably have just enough to get us to 11 months or so and then I'll probably just introduce almond milk (dairy sensitive) and his intake with milk will be less anyway.

@mrsjyw: oh wow! I wish I had that kind of stash in the freezer! I think I only have 80-100 oz in the freezer right now! It's so hard for me to figure out how much BM she needs still. She's an awesome eater with regular food, but I want to make sure she's still getting all the nutrients she needs....

@MrsBrewer: Yep, so the last month or so he's been a really, really distracted nurser during our two day time sessions; like popping off all the time and probably getting less than 2-3oz per feeding (I was only pumping 3oz total (2x) on my office day). I thankfully had a decent stash that wasn't getting used, so he gets two 4-5oz bottles instead. I only nurse at AM/PM.

@petitenoisette: Well I will let you know how much I pump! The last 2 days that I pumped when I pumped twice still I only got 6 ounces total. She will drink 4 oz at a time. So I'm hoping at my 1 pump I will get 4 oz.

@mrsjyw: so when you're at home, do you generally just nurse at wake up and bed time? I'm trying to think if I should stay consistent, and nurse less when I'm at home with LO. I think your LO is about a month younger than mine?

Following because trying to do this right now.

Just curious how many ounces others would get just doing the one pump and if it that was enough for LO or were you using a stash? WCM? My daughter can't do WCM and isn't a great eater so I feel resigned to pumping twice still at 13 months old...

I did the same as you with DS1. I moved my first pumping time back and then just skipped the second pump.

With DS2, I only pump 1x a week and I just dropped two sessions this week. I was full for a few days, but he was nursing so little that now I'm ok to nurse at wakeup and bedtime. (He gets bottles during the day instead and takes in more BM that way than while he was nursing the last few weeks).

What time did you pump when you went to pumping only once at work?

I think I may do this today.....I normally pump twice, once at 11 and then again at 4.

I'm thinking I might just pump right after lunch around 1ish and then nurse her when I get home from work.

How did you switch to 1 pump at work?
