i shake violently, but then i also try to let it sit for a while afterwards so that the bubbles get a chance to pop away :).

we make the whole day's worth of formula at one go and keep it in the fridge, and with an icepack when we go out!

The doctor browns formula mixer is great if you like to premake bottles/formula and keep it in the fridge (for when you're staying home.)

@bunnylove08: I personally don't stir because my LO doesn't get gassy from the bubbles. But, many of my friends say their babies get super bloated from the bubbles. So, I am assuming they use a long spoon or stir in a separate container and then pour into the bottle? I'm not 100% sure.

We used the rtf nursettes for the first week because it was just easier, but now we just use powder. She spit up a little bit with the rtf, but doesn't spit up at all with the powder. We have a little powder dispenser for outings. Also, we always shake and she's never had a problem.

@TurtleDoves: thanks for the tip, I always though you shook the formula. Do you mix LO's formula in a different bottle since you stir? DD is on a slow flow nipple right now.

I honesty don't think there is a transition at all. We use powder at home and RTF when were out and about since its easier to just throw in the diaper bag and never worry about mixing while shopping.

Just make sure you stir not shake (my LO does fine with bubbles but yours might get gassy from them). Also: because the powder is less thick in consistency, maybe try going back down to a slow flow nipple. And spit up with formula is much lighter and doesn't stain half as much as rtf.

My LO couldn't tolerate the powdered formula. It gave him terrible gas and he would end up screaming in pain. We stuck with the RTF. I would just watch your LO to make sure it's not upsetting his stomach.

My lo uses the vent aire bottles too and switches back and forth between powder and rtf. Same brand.

It's not really much of a transition. We have used both.

No solid advice about the transition but I know my LO can't take RTF... I think the powder is actually easier to digest because I know of a couple other babies who were the same way, so hopefully the transition will be smooth!

We've always switched back and forth between RTF and powder with no issues (but use the exact same brand)

So I'm thinking about making the switch to powder. DD is 6 months old and takes about 12-20 oz of formula at her babysitters house and when she is home with me she nurses. I usually buy the 8oz RTF and use it if we're in the car or when I cannot nurse her.

Is there anything I should know if I go from RTF to powder? I know the consistency will not be the same. DD also uses Vent Aire bottles if that makes a difference.
