I just went on a cruise at 19 weeks. All they did was ask me if I was pregnant, I said yes, and they asked to see a letter from my DR which I had brought with me. That's it. This was on Celebrity. I think you will probably be fine.

I hate to be a downer, but . . . I had pre-term labor at 22 weeks, without any prior warnings/signs (other than those I felt the day of). I just wouldn't risk it.

@looch: disney's website only states what I wrote above and that no doctor's note or waiver of liability will be accepted. From what I saw, don't think they even require an edd note from my ob? Im gonna call them later today.
@mrs. wagon: Hah I like to live dangerously too. :P I'm sure my ob will be okay with it. I probably wouldn't have gone my last pregnancy since I had bleeding, but so far so good with this one!

there's no way for them to know how far along you are! I would say as long as your doctor is ok with it (you're not showing any signs of preterm labor, etc) go ahead! It's only 4 days and I'm sure they just don't want you to go into labor on the boat. I flew at 32 weeks so I guess I just like to live dangerously. ;)

I am way too conservative to risk it. I hate the worry leading up to it (will they let me on, would i lose money) and would be nervous if something were to happen and they couldn't accomodate me.

eta: what do you mean they don't accept notes? how do they verify the due date, do ultrasounds at the port (only kind of kidding)!

@Pipers Mommy: dh's August schedule is packed and I'm taking Lo to California to see my family mid/late August. Hubs has the entire first week of sept off so that's the only time we can go.

Sounds like a liability thing to me. Seeing 24 weeks as the age of viability, they're probably worried you could go into labor, have the baby without NICU-type facilities, and then sue them.

I'd go. :)

If the cruise line requires documentation I'd ask my doctor to sign a note saying I'm 23 weeks. I think the cut off is 24 weeks because they don't want women going into labor and having babies without a doctor in international waters.

I would talk to my doctor and as long as my doctor was comfortable about it I would tell them I was only 22 or 23 weeks. How on earth would they know? I went on a cruise before I got pregnant (actually, conceived on the cruise!) and their disclosure said you wouldn't be banned from traveling, they just needed you to disclose..

@highwire: lol thanks <3!! My guess is that babies are considered viable at 24 weeks and the cruise line doesn't wanna be held liable if a woman goes into premature labor and they don't offer appropriate medical assistance? Not sure!

I guess my additional concern is that why is that policy in place to begin with? Is it dangerous for pregnant women to be on cruises later in pregnancy? Can it induce labor? Am I worrying too much about this lol? I just want you to be safe, momma!

@chopsuey119: They usually require documentation if you are pregnant at all, with a signed doctor's note. At least that is what I have seen around the message boards and such. I guess it depends what the documentation policy is for that particular cruise line.

i'd talk to the dr. if they think you're good to go, and you want to go, then make sure the dr words the note so that you're 23 weeks until the end of the day ;) they make you include the due date on the dr's letter too, so you really want to call the cruise line & ask them what will happen. getting there & being sent on your way with no refund or vacation would SUCK!

According to the cruise line..

"Women who have entered their 24th week of pregnancy as of their embarkation date will be refused passage due to safety concerns. "
