We keep a little ikea potty in the car and I hold her up on the toilet in public washrooms. The mall near me has a family bathroom with tiny little toddler sized toilets which is awesome!

I keep this little potty in my bag: http://www.amazon.com/Kalencom-2-in-1-Potette-Plus-Red/dp/B0016KV73W

I just bought a cute backpack from Target to use as my purse. The toilet is super convenient!!

He wore diapers out until he started standing to pee. We went super slow and it has been about a 3 month process as he got comfortable with everything. At home he was bottomless pretty much all the time.

Thanks for all of the tips! For now, it sounds like bringing the potty seat in a tote bag might work for us. If not, I'm going to try one of these travel potties, like the one @hilsy85: mentioned! Hopefully he will eventually just sit on the actual toilet once he gets a little better about going in public.

I line the toilet seat with toilet paper and he just sits on seat and I hold on. He does fine. Even poops in public.

We also just sit him on it and let him hold himself up. I'll help hold him up if he needs me to. Then we wash hands like crazy.

DD miraculously decided she would be pooping in the potty from now on, so this weekend I took a mini foldable potty seat with me and it has been great. I've taken her to the parents room toilets at the shops, which have both an adult toilet and a child toilet in the one stall.

We are in the same stage and have brought a folding potty seat with us. I learned she is afraid of the big multi-stall bathrooms but luckily our grocery store has a family option in a quieter part of the store too. She did great in that bathroom.

I brought my daughter out to stores that are close by and had her sit on the big toilet (I would sort of crouch down and put my hands on her shoulders or around her waist to make her feel secure. Even if she didn't pee I would make a huge deal and reward her for sitting on the grownup toilet. Eventually she started actually using them and now she has no problem. Much more convenient than a little seat and not as hard for her as I expected it to be!

I think most people bring a portable seat, but we just sit on the big seat (and my lo is very small). I hold his knees and he puts his hands on the seat to hold himself up. It's kinda gross but it gets the job done.

My LO is 2, and we are about a week into the Oh Crap Potty Training method (the one where they don't wear training pants/underwear under their pants for awhile). So he has been going to the potty at home with minimal prompting, and we've been taking short trips out on walks, the store, etc. I obviously bring an extra pair of shorts in case he has an accident, but what do you do if they have to go while you're out? My husband took him to the grocery store today and he refused to stand on the rim of the big potty and go. He held it until they got home. (He's too little to sit on the seat, and he's not really used to a big potty anyway, we use the little one at home).

So when you're out, do you bring a potty seat? Make them stand on the toilet? Am I overthinking this?
