@littleblessings: @autumnlove: that's what I'm thinking, if all else fails! We have a beach and park nearby. More like half a park, because it's kind of run down, but it'll do if I just can't wrangle two kids into a bus.

@winniebee: I hear you on the layers! My son is a November baby. Some days it took half an hour to get us both dressed... ugh!

@lamariniere: that's a good idea about changing the baby in a park!

@LuLu Mom: that sounds great! We do live maybe half an hour on foot from some fun places, so maybe I'll take the kids there and hope they mostly behave!

@Anagram: I hope you're able to go out a bit, too! And I hope your husband agrees about finding help. It would make a huge difference, I think!

Thank you all for the encouragement!!! I really appreciate it.

I'm going to be in this conundrum on Maternity leave. My LO currently goes to a daycare near by work, which is a good 50 minutes from home. So during mat leave, she will be at home with me and the baby.

I'm actually trying to convince DH to hire some part time help while I'm on Mat leave to take LO off my hands for 2-3 hours each day--or maybe look into drop-off programs for 2 years olds that are a few hours each day.

My kids will be the same ages apart, and I plan on pulling DD occasionally out of daycare to do fun stuff (since it will be summer.) I plan on wearing the baby and using a stroller to contain her (if we go to the zoo, ect.) Since a stroller isn't an option, I would just start small/close and build up to the bigger outings.

My two are almost exactly 3 years apart, and both born in the winter. I was lucky in that LO2 was an extremely easy newborn. She was rarely fussy and would sleep a lot in her stroller, so we just kind of went about our business as usual going to activities and playdates. That said, we live in a super accessible city, every metro has an elevator, so you never have to worry about stairs. Since it sounds like you will have a summer baby, just change the baby outside! I love summer for that since you can find a park bench for a change or sit in the grass and not have to worry about finding a gross public toilet.

I have a 32 month old and a 1 month old. Getting out of the house in the morning at a decent time is a **it show still. It's also winter so we can't just jump in the stroller and run to the park. There are layers involved and starting the car 15m early. I haven't taken my toddler to stuff like gymnastics or story hour or museum alone yet. Just stuff like grocery store, doctors visits, going to a friends and bringing the older to school 2x a week. I probably will do that in another month when the baby is a little more predictable.

My kids are 16 months apart and we used the double stroller to walk to the park or visit MIL. I live in the suburbs and drove to the library, museum, errands, etc too. LO 2 was born at the end of April so the weather was really nice here during my maternity leave.

When I had 2 under 2 we went everywhere with a stroller and walking. I had a double stroller. We would walk to the park for DD to play, To the little store about a mile from my house, to get ice cream, even to go downtown. We had a huge festival downtown in June and we walked there every day it was open. It was free to walk around and helped me lose some baby weight. :)

How realistic is it to get out the house with a two month old and a 2.5 year old?

My youngest is due in the summer, and I'd really love to pull DS out of day care while I'm on leave (after I feel mostly recovered) and take him places he doesn't get to go now. I wish I could do that with him later, but once I'm back at work, he'll be back in day care for ten hours a day every weekday. That leave us the only chance I'll get.

There are no stroller accessible train stations where I live, and keeping a car here isn't an option... even if I wear the baby, we still have to deal with either several transfers or tons of stairs to get anywhere that's not walking distance. Plus I've no clue how to handle poop explosions outside the house  Any tips for not being stuck at home will be welcome! If you think I'm being ridiculous, I'll understand too
