My LO is only 6 months old. I'm hoping the trauma will wear off. I know I'll have another child (or at least want to), but I don't want to go into it with such a vivid recollection of the first time. Not that it was a really, really difficult birth. But still, it's not exactly the most pleasant experience.

The anesthesia used on me stopped working shortly after my Dr. started my C-section. I was asked if I wanted to bear through it or get general anesthesia. I know that was a prob a one time thing but if it happens again..I will choose general!

@autumnlove: I didnt know you could opt for general anesthesia? I thought only the doctors could decide to use that type of anesthesia and only in emergencies?

I am terrified of having another baby and C-section because my first one was a nightmare. But maybe I'll opt for general anesthesia next time!

I was super nervous the second time around cos it was twins and I hoped not to get a double whammy (twin a delivered vaginally and twin b via c-section). Epidural is god sent but I was so nervous and shaking so badly - I don't remember being this shaky with my first!

The thing I am the most afraid of is being able to have a natural labor & delivery again...I did it the first time but I'm scared I won't be able to the second time so I will be reading books & preparing even more this time. I heard somewhere that it takes a women's body 7 years to forget--I hope that is true!!

@Crisark: See I think I liked the unknown better. Before I thought it would just hurt until I got my epidural. Now I know it hurts while pushing too, and I had a 2nd degree tear so it hurt long after the baby was born.

My first labor was 13 hours and was terrible. My second labor was only 6 hours and wasn't anything like the first.
I'm not at all worried./scared about labor with the third when that time comes.
I think it makes it easier because you've already been through it. It's not as unknown.

@artbee: true, the shorter the labor, the faster you need to get to the hospital/birth center! well since i went natural, i'm thankful to my lucky stars that i had a pretty short birth the second time around. honestly, it's a huge reason why i didn't get the epidural. there was no time. i was pretty much pushing when i got to the hospital. pushing is fast too... only took me two pushes!

I'm totally the opposite- I've completely forgotten how hard labor was, I'm definitely assuming the 2nd time will be way easier, and I'm not worried at all.
It's not like my labor was great- it lasted 20 hours, pushed for 3, and started at 10:30 PM so by the time I had the baby, I hadn't slept in a couple days... but I have total childbirth amnesia.
I tried to tell my husband the other day that I'd rather give birth again than have to go to the dentist (I HATE dentist trips), and he was like "I think you are remembering this inaccurately."

@NYCaliMama: I was medicated most of the time so I didn't care how long my labor was, lol. I was sitting there sleeping and watching tv most of the time. I'm actually scared of a shorter labor because I want to make sure I have time to get the epidural!

if it helps, most moms of 2+ kids that I know, including myself, have shorter labors. My first labor was almost 20 hrs long. My second was just 6! I probably actually was in early labor though before I could tell... I was just too busy with my first LO (dropped her off at school) to realize it. when the contractions really started to come on though, they came on strong and fast! However, because it was my second time I think I handled them better thank with my first. Like you said, they don't last forever and that fact kept me motivated!

@Mrs. Bee: Good to know! I forgot that we get all stretched out everywhere from the first time. But there's still contractions. At least they won't last forever.

i did not forget the pain of my first at all. the pain of my second was painful enough to make me cry, but no where near the pain of my first. second time is easier for most moms, so it will probably be true for you too! :-)

I'm excited about TTC again eventually, but I'm not excited about having to go through childbirth again. Actually I'm pretty terrified. Even with an epidural it sucked. First of all there's the part before the epidural, and then you have what they call pressure which doesn't sound painful but is, and then there's the after birth issues like tearing. Aren't you supposed to forget all of that pain? Because I didn't. Anybody else scared for their 2nd?
