Last time we flew internationally (Boston-London) we had the first row of coach seats (so there is the divider wall in front of you, instead of another row of seats), and the guy next to me had his daughter with him. The British Airways crew were amazing with her, and part of the wall came down like a tray and the stewardess gave the baby a sort of desk-top bassinet type thing to sleep in. She was maybe 1.5-2 years old (?). Anyway, it seemed to work out perfectly as there was more leg room in that front row, and the child got set up with her own little flight bed. It went really well. The long haul flight was a concern. We booked a seat with a pull down bassinet. Not sure if they have them on the US-Europe route or if your LO will still fit in them but it was really good for us.
