I do it all the time but we live 5 minutes from the beach so I'm used to it.

I went with my sister a lot this past summer who has 3 kids - 5, 3 and a 4 month old at the time and my 5 month old. Usually we went together but one day she got there before me and she was pretty frazzled being alone with all three (and my older nephew that day!) and had to get help from a fellow beach goer to set up the shade tent (she has one of those big pop-up ones that you really can't set up alone). And this is a beach that you actually can drive onto the sand with an SUV so not like she even had to carry anything onto the beach. So IDK how much fun it would be alone with kids, I guess it really depends on their ages!

We live like 2 minutes from the beach and my grandmother has a cottage there. So I go on a near daily basis in the summer time, solo during the day with the kids and my DH joins us in the evenings. This summer will be my first time with 2 kids but it helps that we have the cottage to get out of the heat, go to the bathroom, have lunch, etc. There's a great community of neighbors and kids too so that makes it easier.

@Foodnerd81: It was insane. They were all calling her mom and wearing matching bathing suits and all looked the same so I'm pretty sure they were all hers. And I counted like 10 times and I really think it was 8!!! (And only 2 boys!)

Yes! We did a few times this past summer/fall. I took them totally alone after the beach had officially closed for the season so there were not many people there and it was fine. I also met friends there who were alone with their kids - so not totally alone but I was the only one responsible for my kids. My LO's were about 15/16 months and almost/just turned 3 when we went.
ETA: and when I went alone I saw a mom with her dog and 7 or 8 kids, all by herself. It was AMAZING. I was in total awe. Her kids were all perfectly behaved - the older ones helped the younger ones and she was able to sit with her teeny tiny baby. So it certainly can be done!

I have, but it's hard. I wouldn't be comfortable at a beach without lifeguards, and I much prefer having a second set of hands.

I was just thinking about this. We will be traveling for DH's work in a month and may stay walking distance from a beach. Wondering if it would be worth even attempting to go play at the beach with two littles while Dh is working. The little one will only be 2 months old and in a carrier. The toddler could be a problem.

I have brought just the toddler to our local beach, but they have beach toys there and we only stay a couple of hours and didn't bring umbrellas or chairs, so it was just towels, snacks, clothes. It was fun- even more fun when I met up with another mom and toddler in the same boat. But with two is another ball game.

Have you done a beach trip with your kids while solo parenting?

I don't know if I would do it. Maybe if it was one kid when they were older or both when they're older. Younger kids and more than one, is pretty tricky with all the stuff, so I don't think I could hang. I know some mamas do, I saw some yesterday pulling it off and I was seriously impressed!
