@ElbieKay: @Pirouette: You would only have ongoing access to your old gold threads, not your old gold comments. Thought we'd start there, for technical reasons and so since that felt especially unfair! You should be always able to read your own old threads no matter what, I think!!

We also wouldn't want to create an incentive for people to drop comments on lots of Gold content, just to preserve access... that could get old.

@ElbieKay: good question! no clue, i'm not in charge around here :silly: but yea, that could be confusing, if i reply to someone's gold thread and then my gold expires and they reply to me and i can't read it...

@mrbee: @Pirouette: Will we be able to view all of our old gold posts, or only our old gold threads?

being able to view your old gold posts after your gold expires will be a great update!

I assume this mean that when someone who has gold renews membership, it will automatically occur, as opposed to Mr. Bee having to manually process it. not that we are all set up for auto renewal :)

@mrbee: so if I don't click "renew now" for Gold it will renew anyway on my 1 yr date?

Once you program the automatic renewals, will you be sending out an auto generated email to alert the subscribers as well as make sure that their CC number is up to date? My public radio membership does this. It's nice to know when I need to change my CC number, so my contributions continue.

I'm so glad to see that there will be an update so than once gold expires you don't lose your own threads. :) That made me so happy to see that it inspired me to renew gold again haha.

There’s been a surge in gold sales lately, and we’ve been getting a few questions about how it all works. So we thought we’d answer them in a single thread:

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO UPGRADE TO GOLD?

New Gold Purchases

We process all new gold purchases by hand, just to add an extra layer of privacy protection. Usually that means that if a new gold purchase comes in during normal working hours, we upgrade it within a few minutes. If it comes in while we’re sleeping, we upgrade them in the morning.

Gold Renewals

We changed up gold renewals last year so that they’re processed automatically. If you’re still gold (or your gold expired recently), then when you upgrade we'll instantly (and automatically) add a year to your Gold.

WHAT HAPPENS TO MY GOLD THREADS AFTER MY GOLD EXPIRES?

If your gold expires, any gold threads you made previously will still stay gold to protect your privacy. But over time, one twist came up that we hadn’t anticipated: once you’re no longer gold, you aren’t able to access any gold threads - even ones that you started.

We’ve been wrestling with ways to address this - especially on the technical side of things - and finally came up with one: you'll be able to view and access your own gold threads from your own profile. That way, you'll never lose access to a thread that you started - even if it was a gold thread, and you're no longer gold.

THIS HASN’T BEEN PROGRAMMED YET, but we’ll work to get to it in the next few months. Just wanted to share that we have a path now to make sure you can access your own gold threads even if your gold expires. :)

————

One last note: if you want to upgrade or renew your gold, you can do so from your profile page!
