@Kemma: same here! I nursed to sleep until my LO was about eight months, when it stopped working. We did some light sleep training, and then he started putting himself to bed. But he also kept waking up once per night to nurse until he was 11 months old...it didn't bother me, because we got into a routine about it. And then one day, he just stopped waking up and now STTN (usually) 7pm-6am. We weaned around a year.

It bothers me when I see new moms feeling guilty for nursing to sleep, when it's really a great tool for helping a baby to sleep!

It's so true! I remember when we were in the dreaded 4 month sleep regression I was just reading anything I could find about baby sleep and I was so disheartened to read things about avoiding nursing to sleep because at the time that was the ONLY thing that worked. I honestly thought she would never sleep through the night. But now at 20 months looking back I see now that nursing, sleep training, or anything we really did didn't make too much of a difference. She slept through the night when she was ready to at 8 months (despite nursing to sleep) and has regressed and regained and regressed and regained a dozen times since then. I loved this article because it's all about do what works for you and baby sleep is not a single hurtle to get over its constant ups and downs. So true!

Love this!

@Meltini: I nursed my son to sleep for bed and naps and all throughout the night for the first 15 months of his life. Then I got pregnant and dried up and daddy did bed time and you know what? He is 18 months and can fall asleep completely on his own. Keep on nursing to sleep if that's what you want!

@sotofamilia: I've always nursed to sleep but now that A has figured out it's ok to put herself to sleep (which she does every now and then), it hasn't made any difference to her night wakings!

I needed to read this today as I am considering sleep training my little man. I have been hesitant because I don't want to stop nursing to sleep. Out of every time I nurse, it is my favorite. This makes me feel like it's okay to nurse to sleep AND sleep train! We can do it!

Love!! I nurse my LO to sleep and it's honestly some of my fav times of the day. He also goes down later than many babies around 9pm. But it works for us and that's what matters!

Great article! Nursing to sleep is the only way I can get DS to go to sleep right now. He did have a short stint where he fell asleep in his crib, but that required me standing over him for an hour! Then he got sick and everything went out the door. Rinse and repeat.

I 1000% agree with this. Nurse your baby to sleep - it's ok, really. They won't still be nursing to sleep when they're two years old (unless you're ok with that). The sleep books are great, but every kid is different.

Wow I needed this! Not so much for his nighttime sleeping but his daytime naps. I'm struggling with this right now.
