@MamaMagpie - I bought the book to keep on hand for an announcement - whenever that comes, LOL!

@Revel - I'm definitely interested in unmedicated so I'll be sure to check out those books too!

My DH who does not read whole books (sigh...I know) LOVED "Dude, You're Going to be a Dad." He talked about it a lot. Even I read parts and thought it was a good general overview.

@char54: @LindsayInNYC: I second the Mayo clinic recommendation. I read similar reviews of What to Expect and skipped it. I also got the Our Bodies Ourselves pregnancy book and Ina May's childbirth book - both a more "crunchy" approach but I think they're good supplements to the Mayo book, mostly if you're interested in unmedicated childbirth.

I'll have to check out these books for dads, I just don't know if FI would even read them!

I looked at "Dude, You're Gonna Be A Dad" and thought it looked pretty perfect for right now, as we are still very new to this and I don't want him to get overwhelmed! I think "Be Prepared" will be perfect in a few more weeks :)

@LindsayinNYC I love the idea of giving it as a gift -- would've been a cool way to tell him about our BFP but I was too excited to even consider waiting one more second!

@FutureMama: that is SO sweet and SO funny!!! Love that :)

"The Expectant Father" was a great read for my DH. It really opened his eyes up to what was happening during my pregnancy and helped him prepare for being a dad.

@Char54 - Ahh, good to know about "What to Expect". I read "What to Expect Before You're Expecting" which was actually helpful. There's a large chunk on fertility problems and miscarrying which I skipped (for now) but otherwise was good. I borrowed "What to Expect" from the library and might hold off on it... Mayo Clinic's book might be a better option for me too!

Like some PPs, DH is reading Dude, You're Going to Be a Dad! now and says he likes it. He's a fairly laid back guy and wanted information without feeling too weighed down or bored. He says the author's kind of funny :)

@LindsayInNYC: I just ordered this too last night ... Be Prepared was also in my cart but it seemed to be more about the 1st year whereas Dude, You're Gonna Be a Dad has a nice section about pregnancy. Once he reads that and I'm farther along I'll probably buy Be Prepared as I've heard great things!

For myself I ordered the Mayo Clinic Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy. I was automatically going to get What to expect but the reviews say it uses scare-tactics and basically tells you every little thing that can go wrong...the worrier in me can't handle that!!

My husband has the expectant father series. He read through the first two and now that we are in the toddler years, he is reading that one. It seems to be an easy read and informative about development.

Thanks for these ideas. DH has just been googling things, and it's starting to overwhelm him.

I was worrying about my lack of symptoms yesterday, and his reply was, "Many women don't begin to see symptoms until 6-8 weeks." Thanks, Dr. Google!

DH has read "Be Prepared" which he found hilarious and fun (written like a boy scout manual), and The Birth Partner which has been really good for helping him understand what to expect. I'm still reading a book for work so he is currently more informed about birth than I am.

Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for books for expectant dads?

This is not only our first pregnancy, but the first of our family (in our generation, obviously) and friends! DH doesn't have any guy friends who've gone through this yet and I'd love to give him some resources on what to expect (besides a potentially moody wife with strange food cravings!).
