I did read that there's a growth spurt between 10-14 days old and she's 12 days today....so it's perfectly feasible! BUT she isn't eating any more than she used to be. That's probably exactly what it is though

@blackbird: Do you think she might be going through a growth spurt? I find that her sleep would always be off for a few days while she went through a growth spurt. Most of the time, she would go back to her normal schedule on her own, but sometimes I needed to guided her back to her schedule.

I think there's a balance...you want LO to be awake enough during the day so that she figures out the difference between day and night. BUT at the same time, if they don't sleep enough during the day, then they can be overtired by the time night comes around, and that can cause additional wakeups as well. So tough :)

Turns out when E sleeps all day, she does NOT sleep well at night! She was up and fussy, in and out, until about 3am. She's been sleeping nearly all morning, too, and it's noon here, so we're going to keep her awake after her next feeding.

When E is awake, it's like, for HOURS!

i figured out that my 13 week old wasn't tired enough in the evening, so she was waking up every couple hours when previously she was going at least 5 hours, sometimes 7 or 9! so two nights ago, when she woke up at 5, i kept her up til 7 when i fed her again and then she was out by 8. same thing last night and it was a success!

It's such a tricky balance! I've found that if my 7 week naps a lot in the mid-late afternoon, he won't sleep as well at night or fall asleep as early.

We're still figuring out sleep, but LO is almost 6 weeks old and extra sleep during the day doesn't keep her from sleeping at night. Hopefully the same will be true for you!

My son naps well during the day (two 3 hour naps and one shorter nap) and he STTN.
There are days he doesn't nap much during the day because we go out, or because my DD is up in his face and I'm solo parenting.
The bad sleep during the day hasn't affected his STTN though (thankfully!)

My lo was always a good night sleeper and a bad napper as a baby. Now she's a good sleeper day and night. I think every baby is different.

Ever since we brought E home, she has been on a GREAT schedule, thanks to Special Care. Eats every 3 hours, is up most of the day, but sleeps between feedings like a rockstar at night. She eats at 6pm, then passes out, only waking to eat at 9, 12, 3, and 6am again. Then psuedo naps until about 8am, then is up for the day.

Today, however, she's been napping it up most of the day. Now I'm scared she'll be up at like, 3am and we'll have to try to push her back to the non-nocturnal schedule. She slept GREAT last night and then napped with me until about 9am. And has been on and off napping since we got back from the pediatrician's a few hours ago. The ped said to keep her up in the early evening, like after her 6pm feeding.

What's your experience with day vs night sleep? I keep hearing that a good day nap=a good nights' sleep, but she was already getting ~15 hours of sleep between 6pm and 8am with a small early afternoon nap.
