we had a rough start, until 8 weeks. she had a bad latch on one side, horribly cracked nipples, over supply and forceful let down, blocked ducts, mastitis and thrush!

for whatever reason, one day it all just fell into place. she's 13 weeks old now and it's been smooth sailing for the most part since 8 weeks! I'll be so sad when it's over :(

My daughter was in the nicu and would not breastfeed for her first 5 days. I was able to pump and start my supply just fine, thankfully. On that fifth day, she finally latched and started nursing, and that moment remains one of the most powerful of my entire life. We had almost zero trouble after that, and she still frequently nurses at 15 months. It's one of the greatest things I've ever done.

We had thrush for 10 weeks, 3 days. It suuuuuucked so bad and took 2 round s of nystatin for her, 1 round of nystatin cream for me, 1 month of weekly gentian violet, and finally a round of diflucan for both of us. Oh, alo had to soak all pacifiers in vinegar water and wash all towels, shirts, bras, etc after 1 wear and in hot water. She was a strong sucker and tore me up so we used a nipple shield for 3 months. Even with all of that I have loved breastfeeding from day 1 and have been fortunate to not experience any supply issues so far.

The first two months were pure hell. We battled every single problem imaginable: thrush (for six straight weeks), mastitis, latch issues, cracked/bleeding nipples, you name it, we had it. I seriously cried and wanted to give up every other hour.

Somehow though, we made it and now, at 10 months, we're still going strong :) Everything became super easy after the two month mark, but I've noticed that with each stage, there's a new problem. For example, now L is obsessed with playing with my nipples. When she's BF-ing off one, she has to play with the other. And she ALWAYS needs her hand down my shirt, even if we're out in public.

I love it! I have two weeks off for winter vacation and have been nursing as much as possible to build supply back up. There was initial pain when he was a newborn but the convenience of bfeeding is the best!

For the most part it's been very positive. It was crazy easy in the beginning - DS picked it up just like that and has always been a great eater. At 3.5 months we got thrush though and it took many months to kill it, and my breasts are still continuously itchy which is really irritating - but tolerable.

That being said it's been 10 months and I am torn - I look forward to stopping but I love the connection. Sometimes I feel DS only loves me for my milk - because on the weekends he's with DH all the time and only with me for feedings - so I worry about what might happen if we quit.

Yep! Experience was good with Lo and so far so good with baby 2. I've been supplementing with formula because he's an oinker, pumping and nursing. No nipple confusion and he's doing well!

I've had a great experience! The first few weeks were a bit painful, but LO had a perfect latch from the get-go, has always eaten efficiently, and we've had no signs of thrush or mastitis. It's been textbook so far.

I would say that after the first two to three weeks it was pretty easy. There was some cluster feedings and growth spurts but I lived through those.

I had a good experience, too!
It wasn't always easy and there was definitely a lot to learn. Once I dropped holding myself to a textbook/LC standard everything naturally fell into place. I put so much pressure on myself in the beginning, beat myself up over everything, if I could go back in time I would tell myself to chill out, haha, after the first few months we got into a great groove and I loved our breastfeeding relationship.

We're very lucky that we had no issues at all. Perfect latch, no supply problems, milk came in right away. A little tenderness at the beginning, but I never even busted out the lanisoh. Our only real problem was how frequently he nursed...cluster feeding, but all day every day.

@Bao: I was super paranoid, too!

I was so paranoid we'd have issues I started going to La Leche League when I was only 6 months pregnant but we haven't had issues at all, I never even had nipple soreness beyond temporary latch pain for the first week or so.

DS is almost 9 months old and we're still going strong nursing on demand on top of 3 solid-food meals a day!

My good experiences outweigh the bad in the beginning for me. I wish I could do it for longer but that would cause someone to call CPS or do a weird documentary about LO giving my boobs names and drawing pictures of them.

I just love how my LO cuddles with me, puts her hand on my chest while feeding, the little faces she makes, how it always comforts her.

Without jinxing myself, we have had almost no issues. No thrush, no mastitis, no engorgement, no supply issues, no confusion and we are almost at 10 months. I was so prepared for so much trouble and it never came. We are VERY lucky

The first 6 weeks was hell. Within 6 hours of LO's birth, my nipples were already cracked and bleeding (turned out LO's tongue was tied and wasn't latching properly). Colostrum didn't come until 2 days later, milk didn't come until 4 days after, I got mastitis, and I wanted to die.

But after all that, BF became a breeze.

I've been so very blessed in our BFing journey that I am almost always nervous/paranoid about what could go wrong...

I had a few issues in the first week with latching, nipple confusion, and a day of engorgement; but since then it's gotten better and easier each week. I try to be extra conscious of signs of thrush/mastitis/etc.

Have you had a good experience with BFing?
