I make gift baskets all the time. Last year I made little movie baskets in these cute little popcorn buckets I found for $1 at Target. I included a homemade gift card with 5 codes for Redbox movies (you can get the gift codes on their website), popcorn bags, candy, and a pizza gift card. They were a hit!

I have made coasters, and they were a big hit. I just got a pack of tiles at Lowe's (pretty cheap), then took scrapbooking paper, cut them to size, put modge podge on the tile, scrapbooking paper on top, modge podged over and then sprayed with a water proof sealer. I also glued felt to the bottom .

For my sister's b-day I made her chalkboard wine glasses. I got the glasses at TJ Maxx, and the chalkboard spray paint at the craftstore. Just cover the top in plastic wrap and down the stem. Wrap the stem with painters tape, leaving about 1/2 inch maybe at the bottom showing. Spray them with THIN coats of chalkboard paint, following directions, and when they are all done you remove your plastic and stuff! They turned out awesome, and you could put them in a basket with a bottle of wine and some cheese :)

We did homemade Christmas this year. I made:

- Vanilla/brown sugar/cinnamon/olive oil body scrubs
- Infused vodkas
- A painted wreath
- A secret hideaway book
- A remote control holding pillow (had to sew for this one)
- A laptop cover (used that magic ironing tape)

One homemade gift I really like is homemade vanilla extract... there are recipes for it all over Pinterest.

Good luck!

@chopsuey119: I've gotten some great DIY gifts! My sister last year gave everyone a big DIY breakfast gift basket. She made granola, pumpkin pancake mix, tea, etc. She made everything herself and put them in cute jars. I'm sure it was very inexpensive for her to make, but I loved it!

@regberadaisy: I did the photobook for them last year, I love making photobooks! I'm thinking of making a photobook/cookbook though.

@scg00387: Thanks for your pinterest ideas! I actually made my mom those garden markers before :)

@jessiejo17: A tin of treats is always nice! Maybe I can do that and make a cookbook/photobook to go with it. Thanks!

I love throwing together gift baskets, however sometimes I feel like I spend more on these than I do other gifts unless you do a combo of husband/wife.

Movie theme, date night, ect. I also did a tin of treats last year that was a big hit with my siblings (all our favorites from growing up, I contacted both G-ma's for recipes!)

I have a pinboard of present ideas - not all DIY and some sewing, but a lot that could be done with iron fusing :)

http://pinterest.com/swoodson/presents/

Hand stamped jewelry or garden markers are fun! You can get a letter stamping kit from Harbor Freight for super cheap.

I'm partial to receiving home baked sweets & breads :) and beef jerky!

Can't say I've ever gotten a gift basket before.

What about taking advantage of the frequent promos of photobooks and doing one for each mother/father group? I always see free codes for snapfish/shutterfly etc.

So I know I'm a little early here, but I like to start my holiday shopping early so I don't have to spend all my money at once, plus I have a ton of November birthdays in my family too!

I have the kids pretty much figured out, but I'm not sure what to get my parents, inlaws, brothers, and sisters. I really really want to keep down the cost as much as possible. I'm pretty crafty (but can't sew) and I love the idea of gift baskets.

What are some gifts that you've given or gotten in the past that have been a big hit?
