I got laid off right after Memorial weekend :( I looked for a job for about two weeks straight, I had interviews and everything but when you are 33 weeks pregnant...people don't want to hire you knowing you will be gone shortly. I finally gave up at the end of last week and decided to stay home until baby comes. I was very stressed financially but we figured things out and it will be tight but we can do it for a while. I didn't get laid off before or during pregnancy or maternity leave (protected status) but I am convinced I would have been laid off upon my return to work, which happened exactly 3 months later to a new mom coworker. I do know how you feel... when the recession hit in 2008 I was in the first round of layoffs. I still feel so embarrassed when I think about how much I cried while saying goodbye to my coworkers. Ugh. So unprofessional! But I was super sad, especially because I had been trying to work with HR to advance my career with the company... they had been so unresponsive... I should have taken it as a sign! But I was trying to safeguard myself from exactly what happened... I knew my role was pretty disposable for my department and I wanted to move into a different role. Unfortunately they kept me where I was so that it would be easier to get rid of me :(</p> <p>Anyway, you're doing a great job looking at the bright side of things. I ended up deciding to start a family, worked part time while pregnant, and was a SAHM for 18 months before finally going back to work. The timing worked out great... ESPECIALLY because I got a horrible severance package so I received AMAZING unemployment checks every week... for more than 2 years!!!
