@Mamaof2: Wow I'll have to try this! I have a product called "smelly towels" where you add a capful to your wash and it takes care of the towels. Listerine would be cheaper for sure.

@snowjewelz: yep she tried baking soda and vinegar and it didn't help

eta: apparently Listerine kills fungus which sounds gross that your towels have fungus but hey, if it works!

Ugh I do! The dirty kitchen rags seem better b/c I can use scented pods and hot water, but normal towels washed with free & clear on cold cycles do retain that musty smell! I've googled this and people have added baking soda, vinegar, etc... I'm afraid to try tho. So now I'm tempted to try Listerine!

I use bleach and that normally does the trick. Once they start to smell though, I usually sharpie a big X on them and toss them with the rags.

@Foodnerd81: yep! Although she has a top loader so she waited until there was water then paused the machine and added it.
Guess it would be the same for a front loader-

So you just pour it in the washer and add detergent like usual? I do have some not that fresh smelling towels. I think part of it is that we use unscented detergent since having C- before the nice laundry smell helped cover t up.

A friend of mine was telling me that her towels always smell bad even after washing - she has used oxi clean, non chlorine bleach, she cleaned the washer and nothing helped!

I read that Listerine can do the trick and she tried it last night and she just texted me to say it worked!!

Anyway - if you are having an issue try throwing in 1 cup of Listerine in your next load

Just wanted to share
