@Bookish: yeah it's great to have a support system. We'll see how many of us get in and make it thru the program... But I think moms are resilient about this stuff ;)

What is your current baby status? LO is a year old, no plans for more babies until after school.

Full time or part time? Full time

How is the semester going? Great! It gets stressful, but I'm still trucking along.

How are you doing with school/life balance? Ok. It's tough to balance sometimes, but I think I'm doing alright.

Can you see the light at the end of the tunnel? Not really, I still have a couple years. That light gets brighter every semester, though!

I'm currently in grad school online in a technical communications program.

What is your current baby status? (ttc, pregnant, child's age)
Waiting to TTC, partially because of school

Full time or part time?
Part-time. My program encourages only taking one class at a time. I may think about doubling up after I get a few more classes completed to see how it goes.

How is the semester going?
Much better than last semester. My last class was super intense, and I had no life outside of school and work. This class has been much more enjoyable.

How are you doing with school/life balance?
Again, much better than last semester.

Can you see the light at the end of the tunnel? (close to graduation, defending, etc?)
Eh, if I keep going at my current rate, I'll be done in the summer of 2015.

@Mrs. Pen: that's so awesome! I live in a very traditional area (I'm the only working mom on my street!) so I feel like a bit of a weirdo sometimes. That's really cool that you have so many women to look up to/talk with about this stuff!

@Bookish: about half of the people in my A&P are moms who decided a little later on in life that they missed their calling and want to go back for a nursing degree :) One mom actually is a single mom with three kids AND a FT job! I am inspired by my classmates.

What is your current baby status? (ttc, pregnant, child's age) Waiting to try (miscarried a surprise at the beginning of the semester)

Full time or part time? Part time evening business program

How is the semester going? Started not so great and I missed two of each of my classes, but I think I'm catching up now that we got snow days. It's almost midterm and I've only been to two classes.

How are you doing with school/life balance? Thankfully I work at the school I attend so that makes it easier (I can study before class instead of commuting). I haven't been totally committed this semester, but now I'm hoping to feel more motivated to finish ASAP since dh and I are talking about trying again

It's also harder this semester since dh has anew job and works a lot of nights. We barely see each other any more

Can you see the light at the end of the tunnel? (close to graduation, defending, etc?) sometimes... I'm halfway done and sometimes one more year doesn't sound so bad...sometimes it seems SO far away!

Yay! Fun & reassuring to see others in the same boat.

What is your current baby status? (ttc, pregnant, child's age)
Baby girl is almost 9 months old.

Full time or part time? I'm in a dual degree program; I'm on leave from one (going back next fall) and am doing part-time for the other. I also work part time from home.

How is the semester going? I'm working on my thesis. I just finished collecting my data (surveys + interviews) but now I have to... think about it all and, uh, write something. I am on schedule, but pretty nervous about this next step. I'm supposed to finish by the end of the summer...

How are you doing with school/life balance? Medium. I love having a sitter twice a week, and my husband is around to take some afternoons or mornings with the baby... but I'm a little anxious. I think I was doing really well last semester because I was just doing data collection and I felt like I was owning it, but now that I have to read and write I'm getting nervous again. Plus my job is busy right now.

Can you see the light at the end of the tunnel? (close to graduation, defending, etc?) Honestly, no. In September I'll go back for my final year of the other degree and it will be crazy busy (fieldwork + coursework + sharing childcare duties with my husband and a part-time caregiver)... and before that fresh hell commences I have to finish the thesis! Which seems really far off. But someday... right?!

Glad to see a little community of student moms here!

What is your current baby status? (ttc, pregnant, child's age) almost 2 y.o. twins

Full time or part time? Full time phd candidate .. home with the kids 2 weekdays/wk.

How is the semester going? Going well with some anxiety that I try to keep at bay.

How are you doing with school/life balance? It's tough but we are managing. It definItely helps having other student mom friends who are in the same boat! The job search/application process has fallen to the way side.

Can you see the light at the end of the tunnel? (close to graduation, defending, etc?) Yes! But the uphill climb from now til may has put a major dimmer on my light! I can't wait to be done. Its been a long time coming!

Hi! So glad you started this!!

What is your current baby status? Pregnant-32 weeks, 1 day :)

Full time or part time? Full time PhD

How is the semester going? So far, so good, I think. I'm taking 3 classes plus my GA appointment this semester, which is a lot for being this far along. But, I'm doing better than I thought I would. Granted, I haven't had to write a paper yet, so I guess we'll see how well my brain works when we get to that point ;)

How are you doing with school/life balance? Well, if I''m honest, I've been more likely to push back school to the back burner this year than I ever have before. I'm trying to stay on top of the work, though, because with baby due in the middle of the semester, things are going to get crazy very quickly. I'm fortunate in that all of my classes are in my fields this semester, so I am really enjoying the material. I'm already finding that I'm a little behind, but then again, who isn't?

Can you see the light at the end of the tunnel? HA! Not really. Well, maybe. This is my last semester of courses, then I will start studying for comps next year. So I guess so :)

Yay for all the school-bees! So fun to read about others' experiences :)

What is your current baby status? (ttc, pregnant, child's age) I'm due in April with our first lo!

Full time or part time? full time

How is the semester going? good! this is the "research year" of my phd fellowship, so I have no obligations to anyone else, just working on my dissertation research. It is absolutely amazing to be done with courses, qualifying exams, etc, and to have a break from TA-ing: I've taught 4 semesters, and have 2 more that will most likely be next academic year. I love doing my research, though it's been hard because I have to travel a LOT--I've spent huge chunks of my pregnancy traveling back and forth between research sites (last semester/summer in the UK, and now just Boston) and NYC, where I live, for doctors' appointments. At 7 months pregnant now, and biweekly dr's appointments, it sucks to have to travel so much! I'm trying to keep this up for the next 4 weeks, but I might have to cut my research trip short...we'll see!

How are you doing with school/life balance? besides the traveling that I mentioned above, life post-exams is sooooo much better! I actually have nights and weekends free (though there's allllways work I should be doing :silly: ) so that part is great. I'll have the baby is April and then have the summer mostly free, which is amazing. Have to figure out what happens in September though with TAing and child care...

Can you see the light at the end of the tunnel? (close to graduation, defending, etc?) Hahahaha, no, defending is soooo far off! I'm just at the beginning of my dissertation phase, it'll be at least 2 more years, more likely 3. Or more...

I didn't realize how many of us are in school!

Current baby status: X (DS) is 2, and we're planning on TTC again possibly in April or, more likely, this fall.

Full time or part time? I'm a credit shy of being full time, plus I work a whopping 5-ish hrs per week as a research assistant.

How is the semester going? Really well, actually! My school's claim to fame is their Legal Writing program -- which means it's pretty intense, and 3 semesters long. It has been fun to go through, and I learned a lot-- but it was such a time suck. Now that that is past me, this semester has been wonderful. I lucked out with some stellar professors, interesting classes, and reasonable reading assignments (approx 20 pages/class meetings-- super do-able!)

School/life balance: much improved this semester! I take classes in the evening, mostly, and this semester I've managed to come home before DH goes to sleep more often than not. This is a HUGE change from previous semesters. The way my program is set up and our childcare arrangements has meant all along that I get lots of time with X, but not a lot with DH. So it is incredible to have more face time with DH.

Can you see the light at the end of the tunnel? Absolutely! I just have to finish this semester, then I'm basically just under 18months away if I can keep this pace up or ramp up slightly. The fact that I'm enjoying my classes more makes it feel like things are moving quickly/will continue to move fast. It's a good place to be! (Although, then there will be the bar exam to study for and the whole finding a job thing... *groan*)

Full time or part time? Full time online graduate work- I'm getting my MLIS
How is the semester going? Honestly... I'm phoning it in a bit, but my work is at least getting done.
How are you doing with school/life balance? Hahaha. Well, I'm back to full time with a new, much more demanding job and it's really, really hard. I wish I could say I'm excelling, but I'm not!
Can you see the light at the end of the tunnel? Nope, I don't graduate until Spring 2015. One more year after this!

Haha, I sound like such a downer, but I'm just finding it much harder now that I can't do homework on my lunch break, etc. I'm actually doing really well grades-wise (4.0! Wooo!) but I know I'm not giving 100%

What is your current baby status? Lo is turning 1 next week!

Full time or part time? Full time PhD candidate on a 9 month research fellowship.

How is the semester going? Just writing, writing, writing. And trying to keep on top of job applications.

How are you doing with school/life balance? I think we're in a pretty good groove now. I love having an office to go to every day and do 8.30am - 5pm there Mon. - Fri. while LO is in daycare.

Can you see the light at the end of the tunnel? I really, really want to defend at the end of summer. I've written 100 pages of circa 200 and I'm starting to freak out. Also freaking out about my total lack of a job for next year, but I'm sending out some apps for adjunct positions this week.

Hi grad bees! I graduated in 2010. I hope you don't mind me dropping in here even though I graduated. I loved school (most of the time) and always enjoy hearing about people going through the process, what they're interested in studying, etc.

I was unsure about going for my doctorate so early in my career, but I spoke to women who had their PhDs and they urged me to go when I was still single. I didn't have to worry about the school--life balance that much.

Mind if I join?? I'm not in grad school, but I am in shool. I'm 24, and going for my first bachelors degree. I'm trying to get into a very competitive nursing program. I find out march 15 if I got in for fall, but I'm okay if I don't make it since there are still a few more classes I could take, and reapply for spring 2015.

IF I get in this fall, I will graduate spring 2017.

What is your current baby status? (ttc, pregnant, child's age)
One child, 2 years old. Putting off ttc again until after school

Full time or part time?
Well... Last semester was full time, this semester is technically part time but it's two upper level science classes with labs so it feels full time- ha! And I'm working part time.

How is the semester going?
Great! I love learning/education and value this opprtunity. I'm cautiously optimistic and working as hard as I can.

How are you doing with school/life balance?
It's tough- but I owe it all to DH!! He helps SO much with domestic stuff and J so that I have time for homework.

Can you see the light at the end of the tunnel? (close to graduation, defending, etc?)
Not really- I'm at the start of a long journey. But the excitement and dreams keep me motivated.

What is your current baby status? 9w pregnant, DD is almost 3
Full time or part time? Part time
How is the semester going? Eh...last semester I got a lot done during DD's nap; this semester I'm so tired I just want to nap when she's napping.
How are you doing with school/life balance? I'm sure I could manage my time better
Can you see the light at the end of the tunnel? this is my 2nd semester taking pre-reqs for my masters. I have 3 more semesters, and then I could actually start my program in the summer of 2015. It kind of makes me want to cry thinking about being in school for 4 more years!

Thanks for this!

What is your current baby status? Waiting to TTC again, 14 month old LO

Full time or part time? Full time

How is the semester going? Stressful! I have a lot to do and no where near enough time to do it all. And people in my lab keep asking me to do more stuff for them!

How are you doing with school/life balance? I could do a lot better. I feel stressed out about what I have to get done so often that I put things off so I can relax and regroup. It doesn't usually help though.

Can you see the light at the end of the tunnel? I am trying to finish up this summer. I have a lot to do though, so I am worried I won't make it!

I did grad school while working full time. One year I was planning a wedding too!

It took me 3 years to graduate. I can't imagine throwing being pregnant or having a new born in the mix!! You are amazing. :)
