At this point, I'm more concerned with navigating middle/high school and the introduction of technology and social media. College/moving out is so far away still. Also, if my kids want us to pay for college, then they'll be going to a state school. If they want to go to Harvard, then they'll get whatever it costs to go to a state school.

College is pretty far from my mind but I am sentimental about them growing up. I'm more worried about saving for retirement. I am very certain my kiddos will not be attending Harvard at the estimated $475,000 it will cost in 2036.

Uh we are at $0 for college savings. We'll probably start for DD1 this Sept once she starts K, and then for DD2 also when she starts K and we don't have to pay an arm and a leg for daycare. And then probably first focus on paying off our house and then will put more efforts into saving for college and of course full steaming ahead for retirement.

Anyway, I know how time flies! I am weepy that my first is going to K!

@2littlepumpkins: I’m a worrywart and a Harvard education in 15 years time is going to be at least tenfold what’s saved now. To be fair, we didn’t start saving this once LO was born it’s a fund that now has a purpose. DH says he’ll be fine when the time comes and that’s honestly the only thing that makes me less anxious. DH worked three jobs to come out of school debt free and he’s adamant we give LO that gift. He always says if he didn’t have to worry about how to pay for school his choices would have been different.

I went to one too but afterward I just felt grateful for the present! It won't be like this forever but I'm glad we are getting to experience all these moments. It also made me think a little about whether we are making enough memories for our kids.

60k is a lot, but I suspect you know that already. 🤷‍♀️

College is so far away, we save regularly and focus our time and energy on the here and now.

I imagine you are very thankful to have been able to save such a generous amount so early!

LO and I just came back from my SIL’s college graduation and I’m already feeling a little melancholy about one day going to his. She graduated from a small honors, liberal arts school. Cap and gown was optional even for both students and professors. LO loved the costume parade. He saw a “Baby” Shark and Spider-Man. Of course I also thought about how much his education is going to cost us and hope his college fund grows enough to finance his dream’s foundation. We have $60k in there now and 15 more years to grow that and contribute more and yet that feels so inadequate. :crying: :bummed:

Oh, and this happened...immediately after the ceremony was over the school had appetizers and desserts out. Of course LO managed to dip his brand new sneakers in the very artificial blue cupcake frosting. :silly:

Anyone else feeling anxious & excited about LO’s college experience!?
