I think my mom is the most generous... With her time, mostly. Right now, business isn't good, so I made sure they didn't get the kids anything, even though I know she and my dad really want to.

We'll see how generous my in laws will be. They were Scrooges with my husband his bro.

I think my mom will be more generous with her time (she doesn't work and will be watching LO while I'm working, M-F 8a-5p), and my in-laws will be more generous with gifts/money... we are so grateful for anything that they want to do/give us!

Its the first baby for my family and they are 5 hours away so I think they spoil her more (clothes, gifts, etc).

But I know my IL's love her in their own way and are always willing to help with babysitting and other things that they can afford.

yes but all in different ways though.

My mom is single so she doesn't have a lot of money but spoils us by taking care of my son (babysitting, going for walks, cleaning my dishes and doing my laundry at times) WHICH I APPRECIATE 200%

My dad and step mom - have money and spoil us with material things. (they never babysit)

My inlaws do both - even if my father in law is sick... i think that makes him want to be there even more (when he feels good) they babysit at times, and spoil Mavrick with small toys. My son loves my inlaws so much ... just bringing him to see them is amazing.

I can see our parents being generous in different ways. For example I wouldn't be surprised if my parents made significant contributions to a 529 plan for our child... whereas I could see my in-laws buying us multiple big things for the baby (crib, stroller, etc). It will be hard for either of them to be too generous with their time since we live a plane ride away from our families. We told my MIL last night that we're pregnant and she's already up my butt wanting to know when we'll move home.

Wagon Jr. is the third grandkid for my parents, so it's been pretty standard in my eyes so far-- gifts whenever they come, but nothing big or extravagant. They gave us money when he was born, too, but not so much that it shocked me. They are always so generous with their time and work (my mom doesn't stop working when she's at my house, and my dad goes around fixing everything that's broken, or not even broken!) and I"m always so thankful for everything from them.

My MIL is TOO generous. She is always wanting to shower us (and Wagon Jr.) with gifts and money, even when she can't necessarily afford it. It's so hard for Wagon Sr. to take gifts from her but it really hurts her when we refuse them. So it's been a balancing act. She bought him his play kitchen and when we got it and assembled it, she was like "it's too small! Let's get another one and put them side by side." haha.

Both sets of parents are already generous with money and I know they both will be with time as well. My mom took me to Motherhood to get a new wardrobe when my clothes stopped fitting, and my MIL just sent me a check to go buy some new clothes for summer. Both sets are amazing to say the least. We are very lucky!

My mom has been buying a ton of clothes since we found out it was a girl, I swear she's outfitted this baby for the first year already. Meanwhile MIL got really obsessed with when I would have a registry done, finally she admitted it was because she wanted to buy something really big off of it. We suggested she buy the crib and she did. Well then my mom started asking how much the crib was, because she wanted to buy something big too along with all the clothing she's bought. So she bought our carseat. So apparently it's a competition? I'm not complaining, I'm lucky to have both of them so happy to shower our little girl with everything she needs!

Financially both sides are pretty freaking generous!
Neither are particularly well off but we're lucky to be in families that are frugal but not penny pinchers. If that makes sense!

Time wise my mom is already coming up next Saturday to help us out for 3 months. I know she will watch LO full time if we were back there in NYC. But alas those were the choices WE made.
Not sure how generous ILs will be time wise, time will tell!

All grandparents live about 3 hrs away. In regards to time spent with LO, my parents see her a lot more than FIL but that isn't any different than how much we say them before LO. My parents often send little gifts while FIL doesn't but again that was their personalities before LO. They both contribute to savings/investment accounts they opened for LO and I honestly don't compare what they put in because it doesn't matter to me the amount; it is the thought that matters most to me.

My mom is more generous with her time, but that's because she can be. My MIL and FIL own a gym, and they're busy running it. My mom works for my dad, so she can take time off easily. They both love to spoil LO with gifts.

My in-laws have bought a handful of things for Little Jumper -- diapers, wipes, and garage sale finds of items that are broken or recalled. MIL is famous for buying DD things that say, "Grandma Loves You" or "I love Grandma!" on it. In other words, she only buys DD something that benefits herself, or makes herself look good.

My parents have a toy box at their house, and almost always have something new for her to play with since the last time we visited (which is frequently). They spoil her a bit, and I'm honestly nervous about next Christmas. Between my parents, brother, sister and dad's side of the family, we took 2 car loads of gifts home from this past Christmas.. and she was 2 months old! Our house isn't bit enough for this kind of generosity.

My son is the first grandkid for my parents, so they love to spoil him. He's the 4th for my inlaws and they're not the spendy type, so he's not at all spoiled by them. I hate that I compare what my ILs did for my SIL vs. what they do for us. I know it can never be "equal" because we live a lot further away and my SIL was struggling a lot.

We are out of state from both families. (closer to in laws even if they drve and my parents fly!)

My parents are more generous with time and money. My parents have more money so there is a correlation there. As for time, my parents live all the way in Hawaii but they come and see their grand child more than DH's parents who live much closer!

We don't have kids yet, but both sets of parents will be generous in their own ways based upon history. For instance, my parents will spoil our kids with clothing and toys, etc. Hubby's parents will spoil our kids with their first gold necklace and bracelets, etc.

I'm not sure if it's a cultural thing to wait until closer to when the baby is due, but we haven't gotten anything from the in-laws yet. Except a keychain teddy bear that I think is for baby?

My mom on the other hand, has bought tons of stuff already and she's shipping even more things from the States. My aunt, close friends, and grandparents have gotten LO a few things when we last saw them (even though I was only in my first trimester then).

I'm in my 3rd trimester now. LO will be the 1st grandchild for both families. But since we live so far away from my family and friends, we've pretty much bought everything ourselves.

As for time spent, the in-laws live an hour away, so they'll definitely see the baby more than my mom. But we intend to take care of her on our own, so it'll mainly be for visits. But we'll see.
