I believe you can call 911 from any cell phone - it doesn't need to have a plan, just be charged.

I would not be cool with it...I would probably leave them my cell just in case, or get one of those prepaid cheap ones.

@Foodnerd81: I'm sure there are neighbors they could run to on event of an emergency.

Well I may have the differing opinion because I myself have no phone!! Haha.

Long story, but I am changing plans and one ended a few weeks before the other starts.

Soo the last week and probably the next two weeks, I have no phone until DH gets home. In the event of an emergency I would go to the neighbors. Even tho I don't know them lol.

I also was gone the other night and had no phone while DH was with baby. But I wasn't worried, I mean he's his dad.

Yeah I anxious to get my phone but it's whatever to me.

Btw that is pretty funny of your dad

If it was my mom or my MIL? I wouldn't worry at all. But I would prefer to leave her my phone during the day. She could call me at work if she had to

@Foodnerd81: that's a really good point.

When DH lost his phone last month, I left him my cell just in case anything happened since we don't have a landline

@Foodnerd81: This is my thought.

@mediagirl: Can one of you leave your cell phone at home for your mom during the day. I would not be comfortable with my care provider having no way of calling 911.

Just for this week, could you leave your phone at home with her? I might be a little overboard and don't mean to scare you, but what if she had to call 911? Can you do that from the computer? I wouldn't be OK with that (but yes, that is something my parents would do, and no, they haven't figured out skype. They are still working on texting and my mom still signs every text "love, Mom")

LOL! I can definitely understand the freak out, but pretty cool they've managed to to figure out chat/IM. Maybe you can set up Skype at home for her as well, and you can just have skype minimized on your computer at work? All my parents' generation are on skype now + you'd get to see LO.

haha - that is such a classic older generation move. haha

I probably would freak out too if I couldn't call my child care provider!

Is that even a word?

So, my Mom is watching our daughter until the end of next week for us. She lives 2.5 hours away from here so, she is staying at our house during the week and heading home Friday evenings. My Dad stays at their house. Yesterday, he decided to go about getting her a new phone so they have a smart phone for their vacation in October. One problem. He had it activated. So now, Mom is at our house where we have no home phone, with no phone!

I initially freaked out and said Dad has to send her new phone immediately. Well, that went over like a bag of rocks. Instead, Mom has her computer set up and has learned how to "chat." So, we can chat or video chat if needed throughout the day.

It's still a bit nerve-wracking that she doesn't have a phone but, we're making do. My Dad is a bonehead!!

Would you be able to manage if your care provider didn't have a phone for a week while she/he was watching your child?
