Or drop the side down and then zip tie it so it doesn't move. Bird recommended for now. We will convert it to a fixed side when he gets a little bigger (baby is 2.5 months right now). You should be fine for now, but certainly do follow your instincts and preference-- im sure you don't want to be up all night worrying about your baby:). We got a drop side crib second hand that I used a few times while LO was really little.
