My sister had it recently. She definitely spent time with my DS and her DD before and after she knew what it was. Neither child had been vaccinated yet and no one got the chicken pox. it was in an area covered by clothes. I also had it several years ago, before we had little ones in the picture. It is miserable and I would hate for your grandma to be isolated during that misery since her area is covered and the risk of being contagious is so low.

We just had some relatives with it and we just kept our distance and we all stayed healthy. Hope your grandma isn't in a lot of pain, I understand they can be pretty painful.

My DH just got over shingles. They were mainly in areas under clothing and LO did not get it. We were extremely cautious. I think she should be more. This fine to spend Thanksgiving with the family!

My dad had them when we visited a few months ago. He just didn't hold LO and kept his skin covered anywhere he had had issues.

@oliviaoblivia: thanks! I was super scared at first but it was caught early, and thank God we got rid of it fast. The medication is what made me nervous. But G came out healthy and happy!

Super bummer :( but like @MsMini: said it's only contagious through contact. I had shingles when wagon Jr. Was a baby but my blisters never opened so I wasn't contagious. I kept them covered anyway. They were on the side of my torso so it was easy to keep them covered up.

I had singles when I was 32 weeks pregnant and I didn't know it at first. I rarely come home to visit so my whole family and cousins were all over. As soon as I found out what I had we sanitized reverting I touched and just covered the spot. I was around babies toddlers. teenagers that never had chicken pox before. I had my four year old nephew with me 24/7. Just wanted to share my experience with shingles and being the one with shingles.

Eta: no one was infected and I had the spot covered at all times. Anyone my hand went anywhere near the spot. I would scrub my hands

Where are her shingles located? Shingles is only transmitted through contact, and while the lesions are in blister phase. If the lesions are crusted over, and kept covered you should be safe.

We are going to the states for American Thanksgiving next Saturday. My grandmother is going to be joining us for the holiday from DC.
Yesterday she was diagnosed with shingles.
I've put a call in to our pedi, but haven't heard back.
The CDC seems to think we should be okay, but I'm freaking out. I'm nervous about exposing DD to chickenpox at ten months, but really don't want my grandmother to have to spend the holiday alone, let alone miss a visit with LO.

Has anyone else dealt with this?
