Something else I remembered: I strap the below toy to the headrest facing her carseat and hang it down to just above her feet. When she was younger, it was good muscle practice for her legs but now, it just gives her something to kick around when she's bored in her carseat.

@Red: thanks for the toy info. I am building up our son's airplane and car toy bags, so if anyone else has interesting items, post them!

Here's a trick I stumbled across that worked surprisingly well. When Charlie was very young, sometimes he wouldn't take the full bottle. I found that if I stroked his foot with my finger, he would often keep taking the bottle well past when he would normally stop.

I think the trick works because the additional sensory input is distracting. I use a similar trick on myself for pain relief when I have a bad headache, so tried it on a whim and it worked with bottle feeding too!

I think the best trick in dealing with toddlers is to make them think that what they are doing is their idea. So like with what Mr. Bee said with the clothing and medicine. My daughter hates leaving the bath tub and cries a lot if I just take her out once we are done washing. So the only way to get her out is pretend to leave so I go around the corner and tell her mommy is leaving so come out when you are ready. That gets her out super quick without any crying.

@mrbee: Great tips, I'll definitely keep those in mind for when she's older. Right now, she's small enough that we can strong-arm her, lol.

Charlie often refuses to put on his jacket before we go out. I've learned to sometimes just let him go outside without a jacket, and within a few seconds he is asking to put it on. Makes life a lot easier. The same trick works for shoes and socks too!

Another one: when Charlie won't take medicine, Bee and I start to ignore him and pretend to give the medicine to each other and talk about how yummy it is. We never offer it to him until he starts to beg for it. Then we reluctantly let him have the medicine. Works for food sometimes too.

Not sure this is a trick, but a timesaver: once your LO is able to take baths, get into the tub with them. That way, you don't have to take a shower every day. Showers become a glorious treat for when you have me-time.

@Thehistoryofus: That's definitely a good one! I also keep an extra one in my husband's car cause he always forgets to bring something. :)

Thanks for sharing. My LO is still only three months old but I learned really early on to keep a second "diaper bag" always in the car with extra wipes diapers and clothes. It helps me from loading up the diaper bag too much knowing that we've got extras on hand.

@Andrea: Now that LO can eat table food with us, she spends a good amount of time just eating. I also bring specific snacks for trips as well. My favorite (and hers) is Baby Mum-mums cause they're big enough that it'll take her more than a few minutes to munch on.

But she can only eat so much so the toys buys us extra time for conversation :)

@looch: I have these two:
http://www.amazon.com/Sassy-Developmental-Wonder-Wheel-Suction/dp/B004AHMCKA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1321718408&sr=8-1

http://www.amazon.com/Sassy-Sensation-Station-Suction-Toy/dp/B002J4U8KW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1321718408&sr=8-2
This one will not shut up so make sure to keep the tab and store it in the ziploc bag when not in use.

She played with these more when she was younger but now I still use them and just bring an additional small toy and strap it onto the suction toy so that it never falls to the ground. Hate cleaning toys when they fall

Restaurants: I don't like to have toys at the table so I do a similar thing with food (if your baby is old enough). I distract my LO with snacks while we are waiting for our food. I have a separate arsenal of snacks that she only gets at restaurants so it seems more special. We only have opportunities to eat out on the weekends so she doesn't see these snacks too often. I bring them out one at a time and this generally gets us through the waiting period very well.

Red: great tips! can you share the toys please?
I also keep a bag of toys in the car that DS doesn't see on a regular basis to entertain him, but he's outgrowing them and I need new ideas!

For my tip: I use a small bra bag to corral baby socks in the washing machine and dryer.

I know you gals have a ton of great mommy tips and I'd love to incorporate them into my bag of tricks so please share!

A few of mine:

Restaurant toys: I bought two suction cup toys that I keep in ziploc bags in the car. They suction to restaurant tables and keeps the LO occupied when we eat out. And since she only gets to play with them when we eat out (which isn't that often), she doesn't get bored of them as easily.

Moby wrap: to get a consistent fit every time, I sewed buttons to my shoulders and wrapped rubber bands at the ends where I would tie them. That way, the wrap is correctly positioned before I place baby in.

Sand: Getting playground sand off my LO was always a pain until I read that rubbing baby powder on it removes it like magic....and it does!

What are some of your mommy tips & tricks?
