@BeachMama: A food processor will definitely not give you the same consistency as a blender! I'd try again tomorrow. :)

I think it depends on your blender. I had a cheapo one before that didn't make a smooth drink. My vitamix makes really smooth smoothies!

Thanks guys. Maybe part of the problem was that I used our mini food processor instead of the blender. I was in a hurry this morning and didn't want to dig it out of the cupboard. And maybe some ice or frozen fruit helps to pulverize it all?

Blend, mix with a spoon, blend, mix, blend, mix..... I agree with @Freckles:, chunks of spinach (and kale especially!) are gross.

I hold it until there are no more bits. Chunks of spinach are gross, even to adults! :P

I do one banana (fresh), about 1/2-3/4 cup of frozen fruit, 1 cup of Greek yogurt, 1/2 cup of OJ (plus some water if needed), 2 T. ground flax seed, and 2 big handfuls of spinach. I blend on high for 35 seconds (our blender has a timer). This makes one normal glass (for DH, who has his with 1/2 and English Muffin with peanut butter) + one big glass (for me and DD to share). Never had any problems with chunks or the spinach not completely pulverzing. Our bigger issue is the graininess of the flax.

I agree with @beaker. That's how we do it. Maybe use a smaller amount of spinach to start and work up once she's used to it?

Like @beaker: I go crazy with the blending. Frozen fruit and ice help a lot!

Add the spinach/kale + any liquid first (or yogurt) and blend until smooth then add the rest of the fruit chunks.

I'm sipping my green juice (well really, brown because of blueberries in it!) now to tide me over until lunch. Yumm.

I just blend for a crazy long time. I use frozen fruit along with the (fresh) spinach so it hold up better.

In an effort to get DD to eat more veggies, I attempted to give her a green smothie for breakfast. It had yogurt, an orange, 1/2 banana, some apple juice and handfuls of spinach. It tasted pretty good but there were still chunks of spinach in it. She hesitantly took one sip and pushed it aside. So it became my breakfast. If you make LO green smoothies, how do you get everything to puree nicely so there's no chunks?
