I think the absorption of folic acid is only if you take your prenatal within the hour of drinking green tea. Kind of like how you should avoid taking iron around taking Synthroid because it can hinder its absorption. You can still take iron while on Synthroid, just not too close to each other.

I drank it before the TWW to increase CM. I didn't drink it during the TWW because I think it can block absorption of folic acid? You'd have to drink a lot for that to happen though, from what I've read... at least more than a cup.

@pui: I love matcha! One of my favorite drinks. I've been debating if I should give it up while ttc. It's just so delicious! Rather than give up I've just cut back. Plus, it's quite expensive so it may be wise for me to chill it on the magical green powder anyway.

I love green tea so much, but treat similarly to alcohol because folic acid is so important. During TTC until ovulation and during pregnancy small quantities, and not around the time I take my vitamins.

I tried it on my 3rd cycle of ttc LO #1 and got pregnant. Not sure if it was just coincidence. I stopped drinking it once I got my BFP.

I have read that it can inhibit absorption of folic acid in really high amounts. Not sure how true it is really but it always stuck in my head.

I drink Matcha (powdered green tea leaves, very concentrated) every morning just cause I like it and the antioxidants in it. I definitely don't have a shortage of CM, but I'm not sure if it's connected.

A cup of Matcha has almost as much caffeine in it as a cup of coffee, which might be why you're reading some stuff that is saying it may be bad for TTC/pregnancy. In moderation green tea is perfectly safe to consume while pregnant. The bagged type hardly has any caffeine (but also less antioxidants) and they even make some caffeine free variations.

I drank it twice a day for 2 cycles until I ovulated to help increase CM & it worked great! We also used preseed to help with the process as well. It only took 2 cycles of using that method (cycle 15ish ttc ) to get our bfp.

ETA: I'm 15 weeks with twins who so far have been healthy & are a week ahead.

I've read of people drinking green tea when TTC I think to change CM...and I've read that it's not good to drink it when TTC because it can promote some pregnancy issues.

what's the real deal?
