@JennyPenny: I'll second OurGroceries. Synching works great...moving between lists is great. When you add a new item it also shows you what other lists the item is on.

I really like the flexibility with categories. The app learns which category I want items to sort into and then automatically does it next time you add that item. For years I had used OutOfMilk but in the last year they seemed to be overriding my category preferences. I would delete all of the categories except like, 5 but 2 weeks later they would all be back and my items default sorted into the obscure categories. Very frustrating. I am very happy with the free version of OurGroceries!

@lady baltimore: Definitely any.do
It has everything. It even incorporates Alexa lists. Moves list to list. Swipe to delete. Put back on same item to repeat. Audio. etc.

@lady baltimore: I also use Alexa. I can create several lists for several stores. I can tell Alexa to add things to the list when I'm home or add manually via the app when I'm away. I can check them off as i go while shopping.

I use Alexa for all of my lists. My older son gets migraines and I actually have a running list of the dates that he gets them so that i can show his doctor.

Thanks for all of the recommendations!

@Jennibenni: That's a good question, re: what am I looking for? I guess I should clarify that for myself as I look through everyone's suggestions. I shop at several different grocery stores, and want to be able to easily maintain different lists for each store. Moving items between lists (e.g. when the planned store is out of something) and tracking prices would be helpful, too.

I just uses Reminders on my iPhone. DH also has an iPhone and you can share/synch lists. It isn't very fancy, but you can create multiple lists and set reminders for items.

I use OurGroceries. Its free and there's a website and an app. I like that it syncs across all the devices so DH and I can each update when we want. It has an easy "cross off" feature and you can organize by aisle and specify quantities if you want to. I also use it to keep track of things I need at Target and other stores and you can move stuff from one list to another.

Another vote for Anylist! We've been using it for a few years and love it! Its so easy to save recipes, add recipes to a meal planning calendar and grocery list. It syncs across devices and it has made a huge difference in our lives!

We use Cozi and I love it. Its a combined calendar, shopping, to do list app. We did pay for the upgraded version ($30/year) but we did use the free version for about 6 mo. I love it, I have it open on my desktop at work so that I can compare work calendar to home calendar and DH and I can easily schedule things and add to the shopping list when necessary. I highly recommend it, I don't think there is anything I don't like about it.

We use Out of Milk, which is free and syncs across phones so DH and I can both shop. You can edit the categories so we have our basic "food department" categories and also ones for our specialty stores. The one downside for us is that it's a little too easy to accidentally pull an item into a different category while trying to scroll through the list but it works well otherwise.

What are you looking for feature wise? I do not want or need any of the bells and whistles mentioned above, I just keep a list and for that I like Wunderlist. I used to use Cosi but prefer Wunderlist because checked items automatically disappear and in Cosi you have to take multiple steps to delete them and declutter your list as you shop.

We used to use Food.com but the grocery list app folded (it became geniuskitchen.com which I find utterly useless, as it is just videos and shows now). After intensive research DH paid to get Paprika 3. The features we need are 1. store recipes 2. Automatically "translate" recipes into grocery items and generate your grocery list when you "add" the recipe into the grocery list; 3. The ability to share the exact same list across 2 cellphones. This way DH and I can quickly divide and conquer in the store. I have used it for a few months and I have no complains. Every week I plan my whole week's meals during 5-10 minutes time at a weekend brunch, generate the shopping list, and hit the store afterwards. Very productive.

The "problem" with apps is, they can close down and that's the end of it regardless of how much you have invested in it, haha. I had all my recipes stored with Food.com, everything marked in folders (weekday meals, weekend meals, tasty ones, crock pot, stove top, fish, chicken. beef...etc.) and was calibrated to a super efficient point. I even uploaded my own photos and put my own notes / modifications to the recipes.... and then they folded. I had to start over at paprika (luckily most of my recipes can be found again on the internet), and who knows if / when they may close...

Do you use an app for your grocery lists? Would you recommend it?

I downloaded one a while back, but never really committed to using it. DH has been doing more of the shopping lately, though, and I think having a digital list could help us coordinate better.
