I don't think people realized you meant 2 or more lol. I miss how easy grocery shopping with one was compared to 2!! :P I thought it was stressful then!!

I shop with my two kids (20 months and 7 months) all the time and have never had an issue. This is a great opportunity for training children to be cooperative. I think sometimes we miss out on opportunities because we think either our kids are too young to understand or we don't want to bother with it.

Granted, I don't dilly dally so our average grocery trip is only 30ish minutes long but my incredibly active 20 month old is patient in the front of the cart while we're out if he is reminded that he can have a snack if he "obeys and helps mama" while we're out. I give him a job while we're there holding a grocery or two and remind him if he ever starts getting impatient about the treat if he is good. I have no qualms about leaving without one if he gets impatient or tantrums. He loves getting to pick his small treat out at the end before we check out - usually a veggie/fruit pouch or a small bag of somewhat healthy animal crackers. I've had great success with him since he started getting opinionated around 15 months by rewarding good behavior.

Oh, and my 7 month old is either worn or she plays in her infant car seat happily in the bottom of the cart (taking up half the cart space haha) with a few toys I bring from home.

@blackbird: yep, this! My husband takes our son every Sunday morning, it's their thing. My husband buys only what is on the list, he doesn't browse.

Oh when my guy was about 2 and really wanted freedom, we bought a stroller handle that attached to the cart. He could go anywhere he wanted as long as he held onto the handle. It worked really well for him.

yup. this is going to be us later. I have been doing Peapod (grocery delivery) since DD2 was born but I dropped the ball and forgot to order in time. and we need food today. haha.

add the horrific weather we have up here and it's torture trying to get them both down to the street to get in the car, unloading them, re loading them, getting both of them up the flight of stairs to the house then making a million grocery trips...

I may be talking myself out of this! lol!

I make a list, I categorize it by area: dairy, meat, canned foods, fresh foods....and I go fast! And our grocery store gives free cookies to kids under 10, which keeps her busy!

As long as I promise her a new box of cereal at 2 1/2 she does pretty well! We usually walk out with a couple more random items than we would, but it's manageable. She LOVES to grocery shop, so I would hate to deprive her of that!

I worry about this when LO #2 comes because Lo #1 is not great at the grocery store. I can do super quick shops with her, but she won't sit in the seat of the cart for more than 10 minutes, so after that I have to constantly keep her entertained, or put her in the big part of the cart so she can play with the groceries, or give her snacks (she's not a big snacker though, so that doesn't always work).

My plan is to wear the infant and let LO #1 do the same things she does now.

As an infant I went after work, put him in the carrier and nursed him. Now I just give him a device and it usually works okay. If we all go, we have one of us chase him and the other shops and he gets to run around the store (not crazy kid running but he will help us get something as we divide and conquer).

DS is 18 months and we don't really have an issue unless he's tired then he'll get a lil cranky. In that case, I let him hold some groceries that I'm not afraid of him breaking or squashing. Feeding him a banana always works too. We can't pass by the darn bananas without him yelling for one.

I only take the youngest with me, I avoid shopping with my 3.5 year old at almost all costs. Last time I took her to Old Navy she cried so loud they turned the music up. I couldn't just leave either since my stroller (with my 18 mo old) was full of clothes!

I will have someone watch her (her older brother, IL's, my parents). It's nice having a much older child sometimes.

When I do have to take both, I put one in my front carrier and one in the stroller, we need a double stroller.

This is one of my favorite blog posts ever, because it is so true to my first shopping with baby experiences.

But really, it worked much better for us to have her in the Moby or in the car seat and snap and go. Make a list in the order of the store layout. Don't plan to do a huge trip, just get the essentials for a few days, so it doesn't take for ever.

Or get groceries delivered. ;)

How old are your LO's? I only have one, but he's a very active 18 mo old who doesn't like to sit in the cart so I always bring snacks. Once he gets tired of snacks I let him hold random groceries to distract him. It's not enjoyable by any means, but it's doable. :)
