@mrbee: interesting. i did way too much 'fasting' in my younger days. do you consume dairy? some people seem to have dairy sensitivities that cause congestion. i only get congested when i'm really sick, must be awful to have it all the time though! glad yours has stayed away!

@yoursilverlining: i'll have to try that! i usually avoid pre mixed meds because they don't always have the best remedy for each symptom and often have extras in there i don't want to take. i have taken some nyquil gel caps this wk though because we had them on hand. i'll check out that tylenol one when i head out this afternoon

@blackbird: it's not chunky- you mean like neon green cottage cheese? i was super sick when i woke up last friday morning (and i took nyquil at 4am since i was off and had my ass kicked by it all day, haha, not my best decision).

I used to get constant sinus infections... finally one day I fasted, and three days later my sinuses completely cleared and I could breathe for the first time in a decade. Since then, I've rarely gotten sick... it was life changing!

I'm dealing with a nasty sinus infection right now, lovingly (ha!) passed to me from LO. Like you Mrs.Bird I'm allergic to most antibiotics so I try not to take them unless I absolutely have to. One OTC sinus med that works wonders is Tylenol Cold and Sinus Severe pills. I'm not a fan of regular Tylenol, but these ones really help. Ugh, hope you feel better soon!

I get sinus infections so easily, and intensely green mucous is usually a sign of them. It's thick and chunky, your head will kill you, it won't be draining....they hurt soooo bad. Standing up hurts! It takes about a week for a sinus infection to develop after a cold, so you may not be there yet. I had one last month and they put me on mucinex d and an antibiotic. At least take some mucinex to get some drainage going on. The longer it sits in your sinus cavities, trapped, the more likely it is to get infected

Green or yellow mucous anywhere in the body is a sign of infection, mucous should be clear or White. I would say that the best course of action if it is causing you distress would be a decongestant, this will help relieve the pressure in your sinuses and get rid of that mucous containing all the nasty bacteria. You would need a pretty strong course of antibiotics to clear up a sinus infection as there isn't a great deal of blood flow to that area.

The green mucus is actually a sign that your getting better - it normally goes from that thick yellow then to greenish and then its done - So I say no need to call the dr now - you should be back to normal in a day or 2!

eeewwww. this is gross, but i haven't had many sinus infections, so i don't know. when you have one, is the mucus always bright green? like every time you blow your nose? or can it be intermittent bright green with some more yellowish/whitish tissues between?

i got a cold last wk end, had a headache from hell monday & tuesday (was also doing a lot of crying over sick kitty, so that didn't help the congestion & nose blowing), wed still stuffy, but not as much of a headache, then yesterday and this morning i've have quite a few nasty neon green tissues, but not every single one. i thought neon green meant you prob had a sinus infection, but do i still need to call the dr if not every tissue is like that? i don't feel great, my head is still sore & i'm choking on post nasal drip & blowing my nose every few minutes, but i don't have a fever and my head isn't KILLING me like it was earlier this wk. i really don't want to go (i wanna stay in bed & rest) and treating me for infections is a pain because i'm allergic to most antibiotics and have in intolerance to many more, but if i have to have them, it's probably better to do it before it gets worse.

call the dr? minute clinic? say home and avoid germy offices full of sick people? it's just a normal cold with some extra funk thrown in to make it more exciting??
