I had to clean our dishwasher shortly after we moved in because it wasn't draining. I had maintenance come out first and they told me it was normal! I was so mad. The only reason I knew about cleaning the filters was from a blogpost I found on Pinterest.</p> <p>I had to take the filter cover off of the door and out of the bottom of the dishwasher. I used gloves, paper towels, and a chopstick to clean what I could. Then, I ran the dishwasher through a cycle with some CLR. I did a few extra rinse cycles after that to make sure all of the chemicals were washed away. After wrestling with the filter for a minute, I pulled it out and found that it was COVERED in black mold! As was all of the machinery underneath. Apparently the water underneath has not been able to drain for some time, and when I realized this I wanted to throw up. </p> <p>I've mentioned before that I have several lifelong allergies, one of them being...mold. They've gotten worse in the time since we've moved into this house and I've been popping Benadryl like candy but couldn't figure out why because I've been vigilant about avoiding allergens. </p> <p>I cleaned the filter with hot water and detergent and the dishwasher parts with vinegar but do you think I can use bleach on the dishwasher? </p>
