@lady baltimore: yeah, just do your best to get there for both antibiotic rounds, my doc was really serious about that. I didn't go in until I was at a 6, but I just made it! She told me when to go in according to my contraction spacing.

@lady baltimore: two nights. I was already 9cm dilated by the time I got there, so I only had one round of antibiotics. Therefore, they wanted to monitor him.

@lady baltimore: 48 hours with my first and 24 hours with my second. My OB just so as I needed to be hooked up upon hospitals arrival, nothing about it affecting discharge time.

@Greentea: The OB said our stay could be up to 48 hours, but also mentioned that she (Group B Strep +) got to go home after 18 hours when she had her son. She didn't say that the length of stay was directly correlated to whether or not I got there in time for the doses of antibiotics before delivery (though, as a FTM, it's very likely that I will).

At our hospital, discharge time is up to our pediatrician, so I will just have to wait and see what she says when the time comes.

We left 32 hours after birth. They wanted to keep us longer because it's their policy to keep first time moms for 2 nights, but it wasn't related to gbs. I would have left sooner but they took forever to discharge me even though I was cleared. My hospital's policy for gbs was 24 hours after birth.

We stayed two nights and I was told I could go home after one but they wanted to keep the baby because of low blood sugar (she was a big baby, unrelated to GBS).

@lady baltimore: why would it impact your stay? You'll have antibiotics prior to delivery, right?

About 12 hours after birth and only because my son was born in the late evening and there wasn't any point of going home in the middle of the night. I got a few doses of antibiotics so I was well covered and I know the signs & symptoms of an unwell baby. (I also had a midwife who did frequent home visits)

Typically you can leave the hospital in the standard amount of time unless you don't get adequate antibiotics (birth 4+ hours after antibiotics start, typically 2 doses). In that case they usually want baby monitored for 48 hours.

Stayed two nights - probably 44 hours after vaginal delivery, but this was just what my doctor recommended (she gave me the option to go home after one night but I preferred to stay). I had two rounds of antibiotics and baby didn't need testing at hospital.

48 hours with LO1 and 47 with LO2. I had a strain of GBS that was resistant to some antibiotics and I have a bad reaction to amoxicillin so the medicine they gave me could only be given every 12 hours. I had to have two doses to not stay two days and I gave birth 3 hours after antibiotics with LO1 and 7.5 hours with LO2 (I was induced the second time).

48 hours, which was unrelated to the GBS, it's just the standard at my hospital for vaginal deliveries. We definitely wanted to stay the two nights so we weren't rushing them to try to get out earlier.
