Raspberries spreads like crazy because they send out new shoots underground every year. (The reason we have them is that our neighbour planned them and they popped up on our side of the yard haha)</p> <p>@MamaG: it's a half wine barrel that we just filled with dirt and planted the bushes. I'm not sure if the garden store we got them from did something to them first, but they said they were ok to plant food in.</p> <p>@Mamaof2: netting over the top could work or shiny objects have been hit and miss from what I've read. So maybe that's why your new one is the same size as the others already? The Northsky is supposed to be very cold hardy but only yields about 1-2lbs of fruits. While the Northblue is a powerhouse producer, yielding up 9lbs! This one gets fairly large. I've heard from some that you need a "male" and "female" plant for pollinating and to help increase fruit output. Then there are others that say there's no such thing as male and female blueberry plants. What's your opinion?</p> <p>I bought one dwarf northsky and one dwarf northblue plant. Any experiences with these two varieties? I'm in zone 5 so I wanted something that can handle the cold!</p> <p>They'll stay in pots for the first 2-3 years then I'm transplanting them into the ground. </p>
