@LovelyPlum: We are going very slowly. He has mostly had rice cereal and sweet potatoes. I was very hesitant to give him anything but he showed a lot of ready signs. I'm still nervous, but it's going ok.

I am still doing some amount of finger foods because sir baby hates to be spoon fed. We are sticking with single fruits/single veggies for now.

When we first started sweet potatoes, he was waking up a few hours into the night with some gas, which he hasn't done in ages. That seems better now though, so I think he is adjusting. It took him a couple of weeks.

Unrelated, but he still is barfing a TON. I can't even call it spit up. I follow him around with a cloth diaper because he spews little puddles on the floor constantly. It's so gross and I cannot wait for him to grow out of it. My current theory is that it has more to do with motor skills. He is most likely to barf while scooting around or sitting up. I am thinking there is increased & different pressure on his belly. He also barfs more when he is excited (or tired) and both of these new tricks get him all jazzed.

But try not to give yourself a hard time about it. Easier said than done, I know, but babies are such a mystery.

I'm currently going through the same exact thing with my 6 mo old! For the past 2 weeks, he's been waking up 3-4 times every night and I'm soooooo exhausted. On top of that, my 2.5 yr old wakes me up at 6:30 in the mornings. I've been getting pretty much zero sleep. Ugh, hope this passes soon. Good luck!!

@Grace: @Mrs. Champagne: @gilmoregirl: thanks ladies. She is really eating, and not just at night. This morning, she ate on both sides, and she doesn't usually do that.

@Grace: interesting on the solids. We had been doing some BLW, but we have pulled back at this point to figure out some dietary issues. Going to try again in a few weeks with purees, I think.

@gilmoregirl: what are you doing about solids for B? I know you said that he has been reacting less, so that's great. We have the opposite issue over here in that she is reacting more to something. Problem is that with us trialing solids, I don't know if it is something that I am eating, or something that she is eating. I've been scrupulous with my diet, so I now strongly suspect she has a wheat issue, too. I gave her a bagel to gum on while out and about on Saturday morning. Biting on it seemed to make her gums feel bette, and I can't imagine she actually got much of it into her system. But she spent the rest of the day vomiting. I feel so bad, because maybe I should have known better. But it makes me hesitant to even do innocuous things like sweet potatoes :bummed:

I really think this is what's been affecting our sleep too. He's been very inconsistent for the past two months which has been any number of things, but lately has been eating twice at night --- and he's really eating. I started doing a regular "dinner" to see if it helped but it didn't really. But he's starting to settle back to normal finally. I think the extra night feedings were for 2-3 weeks.

Yup, there is. It's often not noticed because babies start getting extra calories from starting solid food.

Is there a growth spurt around 6 months? I ask because LO has been eating so, so much the last week. Before this, she would normally wake up once to eat in the middle of the night. The past few days, though, she is up at least twice, and one night she was up 5 (!!!) times, and she drained me each time! I don't think my supply is going down, because I'm still getting a good response from the pump. I have, however, lost 7 pounds in the week she has been doing this. I am happy for the loss, but holy cow!

She is 5 months and a little more than a week. Any idea how long this lasts???? Mama's tired!
