@ladyfingers: Just found this thread you posted and I'm glad you're on the other end of the tunnel now! I'm pretty sure now that K is going through the 3 or 4 week growth spurt. Sounds all familiar and and looks like I'm just going to have more rough days and nights ahead. But you've all made it through and I guess so shall we!

@ladyfingers: definitely sounds like a growth spurt then which means it should pass in a couple of days! And on the plus side you might find that LO does a whole lot of sleeping once this passes :-)

My only advice would be to get comfy on the couch with snacks, water and some dvd's to watch!

@ladyfingers: if you don't think it's a supply thing and doesn't sound like it is, then my guess would be a growth spurt. :( when my son got passed the 3 week growth spurt, things got easier. He ended up gaining 4 lbs his first month from all his nursing.

@mrskc: oh no, he nurses way more during the day. All day long, no sleep. At least he strings together chunks of sleep at night; they're just not as big as they were.

@JessiBee: I know!!! It's crazy how different he is already :)

@MamaMoose: yes, fairly sure. I had an appointment with an lc last week to work on less painful latch and he took in 3.5 ounces in a 15-minute feeding. I have pumped up to 5 ounces in one session (had a clogged duct and was trying to get some bottles for a break but haven't pumped in the past couple of days just because he hasn't given me any time). And he swallows for a good chunk of the session. In fact there were a few nights where DH was giving him a bottle to give me a break and he'd take up to 2.5 ounces then be frantically mouthing and fussing 30 minutes later. :(

@Kemma: his latch is much better. Sometimes he falls asleep and just sucks but most of the time lately he's swallowing and not sleeping - wide awake and ready for more.

@MamaMoose: I was kinda thinking along those lines as well, my other thought was inefficient milk transfer, how does his latch feel now?

@ladyfingers: Can you hear LO making audible swallows while he's latched on? It could be that he's just comfort sucking or that he's got used to snacking so rather than emptying and filling his belly he's just constantly topping himself up.

All that aside, it could just be a growth spurt and it's certainly not abnormal for a LO his age to want to feed all the time.

Hang in there Mama, this too shall pass and your doing a great job!

Are you sure you are producing well? If he isn't filling his belly at each feeding that might be part of the problem. For us giving M an extra ounce of pumped milk in a bottle at her last feeding before bed (around 10 or 11 pm at that age) really made a big difference in getting a long stretch. Also some of her growth spurts did last over a week so it's possible. Hang in there. It gets easier!!

Oh and I was just thinking if he's waking to eat all night, maybe his days and nights are mixed up? Does he nurse less during the day?

I know you're having a rough time with BFing right now. I hope he starts sleeping longer and eating less soon. :( for me it seemed to last about 10 days. The 3 week growth spurt has so far been the worst. Things got so much easier when he was around a month old. I hope it gets easier for you soon! I looked back at my baby connect app and this is how things looked for me. Blue is sleep, pink is nursing.

Sorry if I keep asking the same questions over and over again but here goes... Hopefully it's different enough from my other posts :)

DS will be 1 month on Saturday. Ever since last Thursday, his sleep has been light and his feedings heavy, and it seems to be getting worse and worse. Where he was having 2-3 hour naps and 4-6 hour stretches at night before, he'll now have maybe one 30-minute nap during the day and be up every hour at night between 10 pm and 6 am. When he's awake, I'm being literal when I say all he wants to do is nurse. The only way we can get around this is if DH takes him and gives him a pacifier so I can take a shower. Otherwise he's a wailing mess unless he has a boob in his mouth.

I chalked this up to a 3-week growth spurt but now it's been almost a week, it's getting worse, and I know there's supposed to be a 4-week spurt too.

My question is, did you experience these intense patterns in waves, or was it just constantly like that until around 6 weeks - or beyond? I feel like I'm about to lose my mind, but if I know to expect this for a couple of more weeks, I can probably become more at peace with it.
