Just talked to nurse about that this morning - typically she said it would only be if the measurement was off - either too small or too large compared to an average measurement.

I had one at 32 wks with T because when I had preterm labor at 30w they did an ultrasound and found he was small. At 32 weeks he was still small but was growing. I didn't have another Bc I was on bed rest til 37w and they concluded his parents are small so He would be small.

I had one at 38 weeks because my OB thought the baby was measuring big and wanted to check his size. And my OB was right - the growth ultrasound showed he was right around 9 lbs and when he was born a week later, he was 8 lbs 14 oz.

I had one at 37 weeks with #1 because he was measuring big, then dropped and measured too small. All was fine.

I switched practices, but never needed one with #2, everything measured right on track.

I'll have them in the third trimester because my baby has SUA (Single Umbilical Artery), and we need to monitor growth. I'd say NOT needing them is a good thing

I have them because I had RnY surgery 4 years ago so they just want to check that baby is growing okay. Also this time they suspected SUA at my first ultrasound and needed to recheck (which, thankfully, I didn't have).

With three pregnancies, I've had at least three. With each pregnancy I had different OB/GYN's, and for two of them it was because I was measuring big. With my most recent pregnancy, I was still measuring big, but that practice just does a growth sonogram at 36 weeks for everyone.

I don't like those sonograms because it looks like the baby is all squished inside and I couldn't even get a clear picture.

I was supposed to have one at 36ish weeks, because I had been measuring large, but I ended up going into labor at 35.5 weeks, so never got around to it! Turned out Q was 6 lbs 10 oz and exactly a month early, so he probably would have been pretty big, but not crazy huge if he was born on time.

I had them with both my daughters. In both cases I had interuterine growth restriction, with my first it was caught around 32 weeks when I went for a "for fun" 3D ultrasound and the tech mentioned my placenta was looking very mature. My second one was monitored with growth ultrasounds from 30 weeks on due to my history of IUGR with the first one. Normally I think my OB's practice would be to give you one if your fundal height is measuring more than 3 cms off.....not to scare anyone, but both my babies had IUGR, and the most I ever measured off was 2.5 cms, so not sure it's always an accurate predictor.
