@Rock n Roll: haha yeah four kids in target is a little tricky but doable. And to answer what to do if they all break down is you walk out. I like to call it the walk of shame :) I have definetly hauled my kids out of target and left my full basket right where it was.

@HeatherlovesKenny: I think that's my biggest fear- simultaneous meltdowns with only one grown-up! What would I do? I don't even know.

@Rock n Roll: ah ours are about the same age then (DS is 3.5 years and DD just turned 3 months), it's do-able but definitely more work. I haven't had either of them upset at the same time yet, though.

I have done the same thing. Trust me the more you go out with them the more confident you will feel. I was so scared going out with all my kids by myself, but now it's just the way it is and we go out all the time.

@HeatherlovesKenny: The toddler will be three next month and the baby will be three months next week. I definitely don't think shopping with kids is really fun- it's usually a necessity. But at least I know it can be done now!

How old are your LO's? I get so nervous taking mine out alone!! In fact, while I'm out I think, "why am I doing this again?? Can't I just shop online?". But uh, I've done this too with my toddler. He has reminded me each time, luckily! We've all been there!

@Ali: That story did make me feel better!

It did give me a bit of confidence to go out with them more that I only screwed up one part and the girls were good!

Of course, my husband has to show me up and decided to take both of them to visit a friend of ours who is in the hospital by himself today. I told him to make sure he buckles the seat belts. ;)

Hahaha awh, I forgot to buckle in my 4 month old baby girl once. I felt AWFUL. Thankfully it was only a 2 minute car ride to the next store, but still.

It'll get easier once you have more practice and get into a routine of sorts. I would say the fact that you returned home with the items you needed AND both children is a pretty big success! :)

Aaw, what a clever, independent little girl, remembering she needed buckles and being able to tell you! You should be so proud!!

Don't worry about forgetting one little thing at the end of a very successful trip - our Prime Minister actually forgot his entire daughter and left her in the pub! And he's meant to be able to run a country!

My toddler has done the same thing "Mommy buckles!!!" And, having two myself, it is HARD to go out without other adult help. So, kuddos for that! It also gets easier doing two out in the world, my toddler has become use to waiting to get out of the car seat (I take her out last so she can't walk away), holding the infant seat in the parking lot because I don't have a free hand, and sometimes even helping "mommy push the cart." The more you do it, the less frazzled you'll feel and the more use to it your toddler will get (she'll know what to expect too!)

Last night I took both kids to Target by myself for the first time. I've been nervous about taking them both out without another adult, but I decided to brave it last night. It went really well, and we got what we needed and got out without incident.

I've been working with the toddler about getting some independence (putting on her own clothes and shoes, getting in and out of her car seat by herself, etc.) so I opened the car door and asked her to get in her seat while I put the baby in the other side. I put the cart away and gave the toddler her popcorn and started driving off, patting myself on the back for going out there and braving the world with both of them alone. I drove about two feet before my toddler said, "I need my buckles!" And I realized I forgot to buckle her in her seat belt.

Luckily she told me before we even got out of the parking lot, but it sure shot my ego down quickly!
