What about a queen futon? You can buy spring mattresses for them. Ours is really comfortable!

@hellocupcake: @Iced Tea: Ah then maybe that would work after all! We don't have a king ourselves so I didn't realize its almost a square anyway. Thanks guys!

@hellocupcake: I would use it that way too. I sleep sideways on our king all the time with the kids so they will roll into the headboard instead of the floor. It's comfortable; a king is almost a square.

@HappyBaker: I would use it like this. We sleep on a king sideways all the time. I think it would look better and be easier for each person to get in on their own side. If there was room for that :)

@hellocupcake: Yes that was my first idea! But then someone pointed out that it might be harder for older people to get into because someone is basically crawling in since its king size horizontally (i.e. their heads aren't at the top, they are to the side)

@HappyBaker: would the IKEA Hemnes work for you? It’s a twin daybed but when you pull out the trundle it’s a king sized bed (two twins together).

Maybe a queen pull out in couch form? Our first bed together as a married couple is a queen. It's now in our guest room. We also have a queen pullout sofa in my husband's office in case of many guests.

Thanks for all the comments! It seems people are pretty divided on this :-) We could probably fit a queen but then the whole room is mostly bed, and we only have guests staying there every other month or so so it seems like a waste of a room. That's why I was thinking of a twin with pop up trundle. I'll definitely look into those straps that connect them to make a king, maybe that would be the solution!

We can’t fit more than a full in our guest bedroom and two twins wouldn’t work. It is what it is, if anyone has an issue, there are hotels in town.

My husband is 6’6”, So sharing a double would be tight, but we don’t like sleeping separately. I agree with the others that I would convert the two twins to a King.

If height is the issue, unless you get twin xl it is the same length as a full. We have a trundle day bed and it's not ideal. Most people prefer to sleep in my son's double than have separate twin beds.

Is this like a daybed/with a trundle situation? Our third bedroom is exactly as you describe. Two desks, our peloton, storage, and the guest bed. We had a full and just switched to a queen (its our old master bed when we upgraded to a king). Honestly it doesn’t take much more room than the full; we went to a super low profile bed frame from amazon which is a dupe for our room and board frame and a fraction of the cost.

I wouldn’t stay at someone’s house if they only had a double bed for us to share. We would drive each other crazy all night long kneeing and elbowing each other. We’d be much happier in separate beds.
