My mom is coming out to stay with us next week. We will have her stay in our room.

Our guest room is in our basement, and during the winter, it's pretty chilly. I don't mind her staying there if my step-dad is with her, but when she's alone, I think our room is a nicer, more comfortable option.

I wouldn't offer it to anyone else, and for my mom, it isn't weird at all.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I did make sure that all the naughty things were tucked away in the bottom drawer of the bedside table. I figure if someone goes snooping it's their own fault for finding anything they don't want to see. I'm married and have a baby, so I assume people know we're having sex.

Who committed to coming first? I would give the extra bed to that couple, and then tell the other one your guest room is already taken, but you're happy to book them a hotel. I can't imagine someone arguing with that without seeming really immature (although I guess that's still possible :-P ) I can't really imagine offering up my bed, and if someone I was visiting offered theirs, I would NEVER accept. Pregnant or not -- I'd just get a hotel!

When we had a smaller house and only one guest bedroom, I did.

Our "guest" bed was actually an antique 3/4 size bed (it was 3/4 the size of a double bed). When couples would visit, I would ask them to sleep in my bed both for their comfort and because I didn't want the bed to break (it was my great-great-great-great grandmother's).

Now that we have another guest room with a queen bed in it, yeah, no. We have a twin pull out and the old bed, so I don't think we'll have so many people over that they need our room.

I don't offer our bed. It's just weird to me. Honestly, if you're full, you're full. I personally think they either need to deal with the accommodations you provide or get a hotel.

I'd never offer our bed to guests, I don't care who it is. Our bedroom and bed is our private space. I'd either say we don't have room or just let them duke it out between the bed and the air mattress. If they refuse to get a hotel room, especially if you'd foot the bill, that's their problem.

We have two queen guest beds, so we never offer up our own queen bed bc it's essentially the same. The one time we actually slept in my MILs bed was this past weekend when I was pregnant and she has an exchange student staying in her only guest room. There's no way I could have slept in her couch like we normally do when she has her guest room full.

Maybe you should take the hotel room and just let them all figure it out amongst themselves! :silly:

We haven't offered our bed but thankfully our families have offered to get hotel rooms when we are having a lot of people.

Actually, we are tonight. We only have two bedrooms, so we kept a queen bed in the nursery along with my son's crib. So when guests come over they sleep in our room and we sleep in the nursery. A little weird, but better than them sleeping in the same room as the baby. My son just outgrew the bassinet and started using the crib, so this will be the first time we try this but I think it'll be fine. We'll put on fresh sheets and get our clothes for the next day set out in the nursery.

@HappyBaker: whoa..there's animosity between BIL and his hife, and BIL (and your husband's) own parents? How bizarre. So in our families, where we do give up our own personal space if needed, everyone is tripping over themselves to let the other person take the better space, so it's really the opposite situation.

@HappyBaker: Oh boy! you're like us- willing to sponsor their stay! It's not the most pleasant phone call since they both parties think the bed should be theirs, but I suggest letting each couple know the kind of space you have available up front and then whoever gets their first gets the bed. Both of our dads ended up staying with us last weekend. My dad who is older by 13 years than FIL got the guest queen because he arrived a day earlier. Both gents knew an air mattress may have been in their future though.

ETA: I don't know if pregnancy trumps age for a bed.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: So they both are assuming the other couple is going to give them the guest room...there's a bit of animosity between them so it's just a super weird situation! Last time both came BIL and wife got a hotel and were super bitter about it the whole time, that's why I was thinking maybe this time MIL and FIL could get the hotel. We don't mind paying for it but they all just think it's inconvenient because its 15 minutes away.

ETA (It's really NOT inconvenient :-))

I hate guests that sleep in or get up too early. LOL. A friend of mine was scolded for being a host that slept in. I didn't mind when I visited the same friend and I woke up first because it gave me an opportunity to pick up Panera Bread as a surprise thank you.

Yes, we've let guests sleep in our bed, and I've stayed with friends who have let me use their bed. It doesn't bother me at all, as long as the sheets are clean and the pillows are fresh. I don't see much difference between sleeping in a friend's/family member's bed versus sleeping in a hotel bed.

I'd push for air B and B or a hotel. Our max capacity is two in the guest room on the full bed. Three is pushing it if someone wants the couch. Past that, it's not fun for anyone and I just won't give our bed up unless we won't be there.

@littlebug: She's around 20 weeks but is a SUPER complainer even when she's not pregnant! I'm thinking of just trying harder to convince my MIL and FIL to get a hotel, thinking of this many people is stressing me out haha. Also none of them wake up before 9/10am and our kids are up at 5:30 so its just hard having them as house guests!
