My regular 24-hour Fitness type gym has daycare. They have toys and movies playing in the room and one attendant is in there. There are never more than 5 kids in there at once, though, and it is a small room. I only go in the evenings and weekends sometimes, so I imagine they're busier during the daytime.

To some degree, I think its their job to watch the kids and make sure they are safe. I wouldn't expect a gym daycare to be doing circle time or arts and craft projects with the kids like a real daycare does.

Oh! Does your gym has customer comment cards? ours does and if I were to encounter a problem I would submit an anonymous note... even if it's just workers talking to each other instead of interacting with kids... it's what they're paid to do - they should be doing their job.

I leave my baby at my gym but I like the workers a lot. There is a separate baby area for non-walkers and always at least one designated infant worker. Since there aren't many kids under the age of one, he usually gets special attention.

If I had a problem with the care though, I might not be so comfortable dropping him off.

I take my baby there... but he is just a baby (6 months, been going since 2 months). If he cries they help him. Sometimes they let him do tummy time and other babies might also. If there are a lot of kids they separate the babies and the bigger kids (2 rooms). They never let anything bad happen. I love the break from the baby so I go as often as I can.

So, I just joined a gym and they offer baby sitting while you work out. Now, I don't think my kid would stay but if he did I'm not sure I would want him to.

Do you take your kid to these types of places? How are they watched? What do they do?

I watched the workers there yesterday and everytime I saw them they were talking to each other or in general had their backs to the kids. Is this what I should expect at these kinds of drop in places? My son doesn't go to daycare, he goes to preschool and a SAHM friend for daycare. Would you say something to the gym about it? Would this matter to you? Or should I let it go and try to take him anyway?
