I don't think the foremilk / hindmilk is much of an issue. It's what LO would be getting anyway if they nursed on that side. If you're getting 3-4 oz in there, it definitely has a mix of fat in there. If you're getting less, you're probably collecting and mixing later, so again.... not a big issue.

Just monitor the suction level. I got distracted sometimes and it would fill up, lose suction, and drop off.... it sucked but I learned to keep an eye on it! You just have to squeeze a little bit every so often to release more air and create a "vacuum" seal like the video shows.

You can pump with it, squeezing it, if you feel decently engorged. For the first month, I could easily get 3-5oz and had to use 2 haakas most morning sessions. 2nd month it was more like 2-3 oz, and then after that maybe 1 oz. I stopped using them regularly after that, but I do here and there if I am engorged in the morning.

I used the milk for a bedtime bottle for DH to feed. I used formula to top it off if necessary. It was GREAT.

My LO didn't have any issues with foremilk vs hindmilk; once she was on bottles I just made sure to not only use foremilk for all bottles in the day.

Someone I know just posted this on FB, I had no idea this is how you are supposed to put it on:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZT7KTemGjE

Maybe that will help? Unless you already knew that of course

Yeah, as others have said it's not perfect - I'm a B/C cup when nursing (A when not!) so I don't even have huge boobs and I have suction issues. It is a major juggling act to hold the baby, keep a finger or 2 on the hakaa pump so if I feel the suction going I can grab it so it doesn't spill everywhere. I only use it to catch the letdown. I find once my milk starts letting down on the side where it is, I can squeeze it some which does help more milk to come out- not like a regular pump but not just like putting a burp cloth there or whatever. I have gotten a fair amount of milk out (3-4 oz) when I'm engorged. It really was awesome in the first few weeks when I was the most engorged but didn't want to create too much of an oversupply by pumping a lot. I don't use it much now (baby is almost 3 months) except maybe the middle of the night if I feel really engorged. I still like it and really wish I had it with my first baby!

@Littlebit7: yeah I was afraid of that. It did seem to help some if I used it throughout the day (usually forget to grab it though) as later milk was fattier.

The only thing I don’t love about the hakaa is that since it mainly catches your letdown, you could end up with a bottle comprised entirely of foremilk. I know that causes some tummy troubles in kiddos (mine included). I used it, but I had to be sure to mix the hakaa milk with other pumped milk. But to be totally honest, the hakaa was sort of annoying. It didn’t stay on, sometimes it was too much/too little suction. The idea was good but the execution leaves a bit to be desired.

You don't really pump with it; it's there to catch your letdown. I'm DDD and yeah sometimes it pops off so I kind of just have to keep an eye on it or have it so that even if it pops off it's not spilling right away.

I LOVE this thing; even if I only catch 1 oz per feeding I was able to save AT LEAST 1 bottle a day without doing any extra work!

What is the secret to keeping it on (as a drip catcher)? It’s awesome for that buuuuut I just spilled half my collection on my iPhone when it fell off :silly:
Don’t know if it’s a factor but my chest is huge anyway and kind of engorged at the moment.

Also can you really pump with this to get more? Do you just squeeze it or is there a technique?

Thank you!
