@Mamaof2: Yes I did get it and we like it so far. We limit screen time so she hasnt used it a ton but it's great because it isn't a Windows operating system but is Linux instead. It isn't just for coming but has puzzles and games she has to figure out to unlock more learning features.

@Mamaof2: Yeah I think I will do just that! @lamariniere: so it isn't just for coding. Its a normal laptop but also has the coding features.
@SugarplumsMom: yes the posture is so bad!

@Mrsbells: It sounds promising. You got me thinking about when we should introduce a laptop to DD. I do hesitate because in our case, our school district uses iPads for supplemental lessons. She even takes it home. But I also hate that tablet posture!

Do you really need a dedicated laptop for coding at 7? My son took a robotics/coding class last year (he's 8 now) and they used Scratch. My husband works in IT and played around with the program a bit and really liked it (as did my DS). Scratch is free. https://scratch.mit.edu/
My husband set it up on an old laptop of ours for my son to use, so he can play with Scratch and other computer games on it.

ETA: I would probably see if she's even interested in coding before buying her her own computer. My son loved his class, but probably sits down to play with the computer twice a month, if that. So having a dedicated computer would be a waste for him.

Have any of you tried this laptop for kids? Its supposed to introduce them to coding. DD really wants a tablet for her 7th birthday but DH made a good point that a laptop would be better because she gets to practice the typing skills introduced at school. And we have nevrr liked the head down posture from using a hand held device.
There aren't that many reviews on amazon soI am hesitant but it has already received some good awards.
