I'm so sorry! I got whiplash from a car accident and never took muscle relaxers, but I did go to my dr who sent me to physical therapy. After about a month I felt fine! I would def suggest PT.

There's an app called LactMed that you can use to check medication safety in BF. I just checked quickly, and Baclofen is ok.

Oh no!! Glad the boys weren't hurt, but sorry to see that you're in pain. I would definitely load up on ibuprofen if you can't take muscle relaxers, and lots of heat packs. Hope you get a little relief soon.

So glad you are okay! As far as I know some are okay & some aren't advised in breastfeeding... I think they would be in the realm of "if you really have to then it should be okay", but if it can be avoided it should be. (none of the common ones are on the kellymom list).

I actually deal with neck & back spasms from an accident I was in 3 years ago & am always stressed my neck is going to lock up again. I have flexeril sitting in my medicine cabinet & have wanted to take it so bad some nights..... I haven't found anything on it particularly that says I can take it without worry so I've just dealt with it. Hope you can get something that's bf'ing safe!

Oh my gosh, I'm so glad you and your family are okay! As far as muscle relaxants, I didn't take them after my accident, but I did take 800mg Tylenol (I had similar injuries to you, neck/back spasms and a misaligned pelvis). One thing that helped was to keep moving so I didn't stiffen up, and I did visit a chiropractor to help with my alignment and pain issues.

Thank god you (and the boys) are okay!!

DH was rear ended a month or so ago and had some back/neck pain after. As an attorney, I told him to go to the ER (no nearby PCP), just in case. God forbid something worse had happened or the symptoms progressively got worse, the first thing attorneys look at is when you first sought treatment. He could have probably done without it since he just had soft tissue injuries but the RXs were what helped the most after. He got ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil) and a muscle relaxant. The ibuprofen was 600mg (so 3 of the regular over-the-counter ones). The muscle relaxer really helped but made him loopy and drowsy so he couldn't take it at work. I just researched the one he was prescribed (a common drug) - it's a class B drug meaning there's no firm evidence whether it passes through breast milk. Can you pump and store in the meantime, if necessary? He iced his back a lot and laid down as much as possible.

@Mrs. Blue: oh my goodness. I'm so glad everyone is ok.

I had a debilitating neck spasm while 8 months pregnant and they couldn't put me on muscle relaxants or ibuprofen (which is what they'd normally put me on), so instead I got oxycodone and tylenol. I know you can take motrin while breastfeeding but not sure about the muscle relaxants. I say go anyway though... better safe than sorry, and your muscles may lock up if you don't do anything at all!

@Mrs. Blue: I'm so sorry to hear about your accident! So glad you and the babes are OK - how scary!

I had muscle spasms in my neck a few weeks back that were so bad I couldn't move/walk --- I ended up taking Baclofen to help get the spasms to stop, then switched to 800mg Tylenol. I was worried about taking it so I only took it in the beginning to stop the spasms but it seems safe, here are some links:

We were in a car accident yesterday. :(. We got the boys checked, and they are fine-so thankful for good car seats!! Team Rear-Facing Carseats Forever!

Anyway, my back and neck are really sore and I'm having some muscles spasms. I'm sure it will all go away eventually, but I'm trying to decide whether it is worth it to go to the doctor. I'm guessing muscle relaxants is about all they could do, but I'm not even sure I could take them while breastfeeding. Does anyone happen to know if there are certain ones you can take? If so, I might go in, but otherwise I'll probably just try to deal with it at home.
