(I would find a new stylist, but I can't because 1. we're friends 2. I love him 3. I would feel guilty) My DS went on bottle strike at 2 months old so whenever I wanna go out to get something done I have to time it perfectly. The last time I got my hair colored and cut I was gone for 6 hours. My 2 month old starved while I was gone. He wouldn't take the bottle! This time around I put DS down for a nap and left, came home 5 hours later. But if the mom is the sort that she wants to go out and get her hair dyed, can't she pump a bit into a bottle to hold the baby over until she gets home? I agree with @Anagram: about not wanting to expose babies to fumes. (Although, I never smell fumes.) My hair stylist was in Georgetown in DC, where there's a ton of stuff to do, so he walked around the shops. Plus my appointment was maybe an hour and a half. I wonder why that guy was there? My DH - very surprisingly - has actually gone with me to get my hair done. BUT I get mine done in a different county. Its a bit of a drive to a place that he and I otherwise never go visit. So he has, on a handful of occassions, gone with me. But he doesn't sit in the salon. To be honest, I don't know what he does for the 3+ hours I am getting my hair done. But when I'm done, he and I hang out in town for the rest of the day. He has sometimes hung out in the hair salon for a bit because he has, over time, gotten to know my hair dye/ cut people. He always says, "I feel like a tourist." Its funny and totally endearing when he wants to go with me. But if I was just at a supercuts around the corner and DH wanted to come, no f'n way. ETA: I'm not a mom, so I don't know... but maybe the mom getting her hair dyed needed to breast feed her baby at the exact time she was getting her hair dyed. That's why the dad was there with the baby. My appt was at 10:30am and I'm guessing she was there around 9am. When I left at almost 3 (I had to wait an hour for my guy to finish her hair -.-) she was getting her hair cut. My DH would NEVER chill for 6+ hours with our baby while I was getting my hair done.
