For me hair loss was the worst at 4 months postpartum. But I still have a huge amount of hair, guess I must have gotten more hair during pregnancy and not really noticed it.
I thought I was going to go bald with how much was coming out.

@regberadaisy: biotin is supposed to be good for preventing hair loss and promoting growth. i used to take the hair, skin and nail vitamins from gnc before i got pregnant. it helped curb the shedding a bit, but didn't stop it entirely. for me, it took 2 weeks to see the results, so i wouldn't give up if you don't see the hair stop falling out after a day or two. hair takes awhile to reflect the nutrition you are putting into your body.

@LivsMama: sorry i missed this last week...i'm not event postpartum yet, still pregnant actually! BUT, i have been losing my hair since i was 16 and have done a lot of reading up on hair loss. so i am prepared for what is to come....my hair barely sheds at all now, so i'll enjoy it while it lasts but i know after the baby comes, it'll all fall out. 3 months pp is what i've read is normal.

My hair loss just started a couple of weeks ago. It's gross and is clogging the drain. But I lost a ton when I first got pregnant, so I've just accepted my fate. I will have ridiculous hair for a good year.

@LivsMama: I was the same way- all of my friends hair went crazy and all of mine stopped growing. It has resumed its crazy growth rate now and I keep forgetting that I have to shave my legs more than once a week now

Yea, it's getting kinda ridiculous. Are there any supplements I can take that encourage hair growth?

I had to revisit this post because I have a receding hairline now!!! I want to cry even though it's only noticeable to me because my hair is puffy (I have a short afro) and hides the baldness.

I'm happy I cut my hair shorter (I had dreadlocks and cut them off) because the locks in the front would've just fallen off. Imagine if they fell off in public! I would die of embarrasment.

Thanks! Good to know it's normal but sucks it's coming out in clumps!

@Mrsbells: I was actually considering growing it longer for the first time in years. Guess I'm going short again!

I am not there yet but from what I have read, the shedding really picks up (i.e. handfuls and clumps) a few months after delivery. So sounds like you are around that time. Hang in there!

I didn't lose any hair until 4 months postpartum...taking a shower and looking at the clumps in the drain cup was always a bummer! My hair loss has slowed down at almost 7 months post partum.

So I know hair loss post partum is normal. However, I did not see an increase in my hair loss immediately following delivery even though I shed quite a bit. But in the last week or (~2 months post partum) my hair has been coming off in clumps when I brush.

What gives? Am I deficient in something?

I am on a milk (some soy) elimination diet. Can calcium deficiency be a reason for hair loss?
