@crazydoglady's advice is exactly what I was going to say re: scrunching out the crunch. I have naturally curly hair and use co-washing + Devacurl + Curlsmith souffle + curly girl method on my hair. I also love to "plop" using a cotton t-shirt (watch some youtube videos for the best techniques!). Works for wavy hair too.

I tried so many salt and curl sprays on my wavy hair since I wanted to air dry. I didn’t find any miracles. My best move was actually switching my shampoo and conditioner to ones recommended by my hair stylist for my hair type.

@Ina85: agree, I love that stuff. My DD and I both use it and it is smoothing and non-crunchy.

@gotkimchi: @MrsSRS: To break the gel cast, you've just got to "scrunch out the crunch" and your hair should have hold and be super soft, but wait until it is completely dry or it will be frizzy. You can break the gel cast by scruching into a diffuser or use a super soft tshirt.

Hair that is less curly is more prone to frizz, so stay away from super creamy lotions that will just weigh your hair down and try to use more lightweight creams along with a gel with hold to get definition which wavy hair needs.

I really like Ouidad products. So here's what I do...wash and then comb conditioner through my hair in the shower. Rinse. While my hair is still sopping wet, I scrunch in a curl cream like curls rock by Tigi or a lightweight cream by Ouidad (they have a spray cream that is also great for 2nd/3rd day curls.) Make sure to avoid the roots and try not to fuss too much. Then, I use a microfiber towel or soft t-shirt and scrunch out some of the water so it's wet and not sopping. Then, I scrunch gel into my hair from root to ends and scrunch out more wetness with the towe do that it is really damp. I either diffuse or air dry. Once it's totally dry, I scrunch out the crunch like I mentioned and then either use a little hair spray to set or some dry hair oil if it's a little frizzy.

Opposite of what you asked for, but
1) I love the Amika Perfectly Polished straightening brush (I’ve posted a ton about it here and many bees have bought it!). I can let my frizzy, kinky, wavy hair air dry or even sleep on it wet. Then use that thing and have smooth straight hair in about 5 mins. It straightens but isn’t as harsh/severe as a straightening iron.

2) a Brazilian blowout is the absolute best! I get them spring, summer and early fall. Can airdry or light blow dry and it’s amazing.

3) if you want to go the curly/wavy route I really like the Oribe Aprés Beach spray.

I loooooove the Aveda be curly line. I use the style prep creme although now I’m noticing they have a curl enhancer. There is ZERO crunch from the style prep. For even more
definition I like Tigi catwalk curl amplifier. Again, neither product makes my hair crunchy in the slightest.

Help!! I just took about six inches off my hair and I forgot how wavy it is when it isn't weighed down. It's roo hot to blow dry all the time right now and I'm totally clueless on products. When I air dry my hair it is wavy and frizzy so I'm looking for something that would encourage more curling if I worked it in wet then scrunched it and let it air dry. I've tried several variations of salt sprays and serums and it's not enough. What would you use?
Thanks, bees 😆
