We use the tiny ones. Nothing else would hold my LO's fine hair. I typically cut them out with baby nail scissors or nail clippers (because I happen to have them in the same drawer, I guess). I only unwrap them if they are a bit lose.

For pig tails or braids, I use similar small bands to what’s been recommended. They are a pain to get out though! For just a single pony tail, I really like these coil hair ties. I can loop them a couple times and they don’t pull my daughter’s hair as I take them out. They’re kinda bulky, but for a pony tail she doesn’t seem to mind and they stay in well::

My girls have a lot of hair and these work the best for us. They’re small but soft and hard to turn into weapons! But you do need more than just a tiny baby amount of hair. I have a ton of wavy thick hair and I think my girls have inherited my hair.

@snowjewelz: polybands are easier to get out than the elastic version which look exactly the same. I can easily unwind these from DD's hair with a bit of patience (and she is 10 with nearly shoulder length hair). I can not say the same for the elastic version.
I can get 2 or 3 uses if I remove them well enough.

@lady baltimore: the ones that come 500 per pack? Yes, single use. They get all stretched out even if you don't cut them out.

@lady baltimore: @snowjewelz: regardless of what brand, we use a seam ripper to get the tiny bands out of DD's hair. Then they really are ouchless!

My mom put hair ties like everyone has recommended in my daughter's hair last week and I wanted to murder her! They were a real bitch to get out, and tore a bunch of her hair.

We used these when LO first had enough hair for pony tails:

https://www.target.com/p/goody-girls-ouchless-mixed-pack-elastics-45ct/-/A-15642839

and recently switched to these:

https://www.target.com/p/scunci-ponytailers-40pk/-/A-75564457

When my DD was little she had shorter "baby fine" wavy hair. We used the following "polybands" made specifically for fine hair.
(* photo affixed) Of course, now she has lovely thick hair (still fine textured, though) but I still use these when doing more intricate braids and updos along with clips and hair pins to keep the flyaways at bay and maintain a finished look. These have been a godsend.

What hair ties do you use for short little girl hair? I personally have thick curly/wavy hair and use the black ouchless elastic hair ties https://www.amazon.com/Goody-Ouchless-Elastic-Bands-No-metal/dp/B009O3I64G?th=1
obviously these are much too big and bulky for little girl hair, so what do I use for tiny pony tails or pig tails?
