I have super short hair. If I don't wash and dry it daily (each morning), I would scare small children and adults as well. It gets greasy, sticks up in weird places. I also use product in it daily, so that would start to build up. Its just part of my routine, and honestly, even if I didn't have to wash my hair daily, I probably would anyway.

@catlady: @looch: @Foodnerd81: you all have hair like I kind of imagine people would if they blow dry daily- already straight, super quick to do. A friend of mine has a lot of soft wavy/ loose curly hair, although thinking about it her probably doesn't tangle, but she blow dries it every day after working out.

@daniellemybelle: I probably should not wash my hair so often. Funny enough everyday in HS I washed my hair daily and slicked it back with gel- also a hair sin.

I almost never blow dry my hair (too lazy- it looks better when I do!). But my hair is fine and mostly straight so when I do blow dry it it takes less than ten minutes. Washing is very fast, again since it's so fine. I usually wash t every other day but end up with it in a ponytail almost every day anyway. I stay at home now, but even pre kids when I worked this was pretty much my norm.

My hair is very fine and straight, cut into a chin length bob. It doesn't have any natural curl or wave to it at all. In the morning, I wash it in the shower and then wrap it in a towel. I put mousse into it and then blow it dry, takes about 4 minutes. On days when I shower at night, I flat iron it in the morning.

My hair is super fine and super straight. It can't hold a curl and it doesn't really tangle. It looks greasy very easily though. So I wash every day, let it air dry, then pull it up. Takes no extra time at all. I don't bother using a hair dryer unless I have to go out in the cold and it's still wet.

LO's hair is like mine but she doesn't get greasy as fast so she can go 3 days or so without washing it.

So I think my LO has hair more like yours... honestly, there is no point (for style reasons) at which her hair needs to be washed, exactly, but she's a kid and gets dirty! I can "reset" her hair really easily by wetting it without the need to actually wash it. I'm not sure that washing hair that is very textured every 2 days is a good idea?

LO wears her hair in her natural curls almost all the time. Occasionally I will do two braids or twists but often it is just in a ponytail or pigtails. We can go about 2-3 days before it starts to look really dry and fuzzy but what I do is wet it, condition it, and comb it out and it's good as new.

LO's hair has literally never gotten greasy - it's the opposite and dries out over time. My hair is fairly dry and wavy but after about 3 days it is greasy and I am dying to wash it. I get it wet in the shower every day (or every day that I shower :silly: ) but only wash it every 2-3 days.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: My hair looks greasy on day 3, so I can't get away without washing it, but if I was able to get away with it, it is still fairly straight on day 3 and just needs minor touch-ups.

@Adira: ooh, skipping the blow drying step sounds appealing.

On days, my hair is straight I spend just seconds giving it a quick brush. Is that what it's like for you all on day two or three before you shampoo again?

My hair is naturally wavy but in a weird way. If it's longish it goes into beachy waves if I'm lucky but not always. I also feel gross if I don't wash it every day. In the summer if I'm lazy I'll sometimes skip blow drying, but I run the risk that I'll hate my hair all day. I usually only flatiron it if I'm going to work or out somewhere. That being said going from pyjamas to ready to go usually takes me about 45 minutes so doing it every day isn't a huge hassle.

@dc yoga bee: I retwist at night to stretch it two days. After that the shrinkage with lots of help from the tangles gets worse and I am walking around with a fluffy inverted triangle. I would love for the style to keep longer, are you applying in product during the evening twist.

@ValentineMommy: walled you a pic. It's more defined curls on the bottom half and looser curls once dry on top.

You should be retwisting or rebraiding your hair into big loose twists or braids every evening before bed. That's how you get your curly look to last for the week!

My hair is wavey and I wash it every other day. On the days I wash it, I just put curling gel in my hair and then let it air dry. Easy-peasy! And then on the other days, I either put it up in a pony-tail (my go-to these days) or I straighten it. If I straighten it, it takes just about the same amount of time as it does to wash it, so it's not too bad. Maybe 30 minutes to wash or 30 minutes to straighten. I never blow dry my hair.

What type of hair do you naturally have???

My hair is naturally curly, and very dry. It's pretty thick. But, if I don't wash it every 3ish days, it looks SUPER greasy. There's no way I could go longer than that without washing it.

No matter how I wear it (blown out or natural), I wash mine at night. I start work at 6am, no WAY I'm getting up to do all that in the morning. Lol

Curly: Wash at night. Scrunch it up. Air dry. Before bed, I french braid it loosely. In the morning, I spritz it with water and rescrunch. If I happen to wash it in the morning (weekends sometimes), I just wash, scrunch, and air dry.

Blow dry: Definitely wash at night. That takes less than 10 minutes. I wrap it up in a tshirt to suck out the excess water. I usually wash my face and do some other stuff for maybe 10 minutes. Take it out, put product in. Then I blow dry my bangs entirely and do an overall quick blow dry to take around 50% of the moisture out. Takes less than 10 minutes. Then I usually watch a 30 min tv show with DH and give it time to air dry a bit. After that, I finish drying it (while brush straightening it), which takes less than 10 minutes as well. If you take out the TV show, the actual time spent on doing my hair is around 30 minutes, from washing to dried. Then I sleep, and in the morning flat iron it, which takes about 5 minutes. I normally only have to straighten the ends, which get crazy from sleeping on them.

If hair washing (& blow drying) is a daily or nearly daily routine, why is that? How long does it take?

On Friday, I am going to the hair dresser to get wash+blow dry+flat iron, which will last at least 4-5 weeks. For the last week and a half I have worn my hair curly. Washing it every two days and then separating it into four twists while it air dries for a few hours. Then, I untwist and let the hair go free. I can do this without it looking dry and crazy for all of two days then I have to wash my hair again. This is so time consuming and I am sure I have lost half my hair detangling it in the shower this past week.

Help me understand what am I missing with the daily or nearly daily hair washing some of you do.

I should probably note when the hair dresser does my hair it takes a fast one all of 45 min, when I have a slower one 75-90 min. I can't imagine it taking me less than 2 hours to wash+blow dry + flat iron. How long does your hair take in the morning when you wash it?

So curious!
